Facebook and the Effects It Beholds

The internet has had a greater impact on people today than ever before. It has been a constant source of news, entertainment, and education for users around the world for more than twenty years. However, the most revolutionary of its technologies, social media, didn’t achieve mainstream popularity until about ten years ago. As a result of this new development, Facebook, Twitter, and similar services are becoming the most visited destinations on the internet. Although these social networks may seem harmless and fun, some may find many negative impacts and effects on the user. Some of these harmful effects include deprivation of sleep, or even depression, though some individuals may have a different view on the social network. Social networks such as Facebook behold many negative and positive effects on the user and pose a threat to many present day students.
Social networks allow users to quickly and easily share pictures, links, ideas and messages with other users; theoretically facilitating social interaction. Though do these self-proclaimed social networking tools actually encourage healthy human interaction? According to Wallace, recent statistics reveal that internet users spend an average of 3 hours a day on social media services, (“How Social Media is changing the World”). These services, through a combination of accessibility, simplicity, and intuitive design promote positive social behavior by encouraging interaction among friends, relatives and coworkers; facilitating communication between individuals, and fostering a profound sense of community. ...nd is important that professionals share this valuable information with one another. On the contrary, there is also a chance of more negative effects to come from the use of social networks also. Though even with both positive and negative effects, social networks such as Facebook still remain to pose threats to many present day students the use social networks will live on through the coming years.
