The Face of Tomorrow
One of many problems facing society today is the rate of youth dropping out of high school. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, “Dropping out of high school is related to a number of negative outcomes” (Patrick et al. 1). Unfortunately, this a reality for many people in our society. This is why the issue must be addressed and it must be addressed complexly because it is not a cut and dry problem. It may seem like there are too many factors in play, but this should be seen as an opportunity for many solutions. If the students had the option for career focused high schooling they may continue longer than they would in a traditional high school environment. A support system of advisors and counselors could make the positive results even greater.
High school dropout rates lead to even more issues. High school dropouts are more likely to be in poverty. Dropouts are also more likely to be involved in criminal activity. A unit is only as strong as its weakest length. We must focus a substantial amount of effort into shaping the people of tomorrow. The lack of a high school education is something that can easily cause a terrible domino effect. As a society we must rally around each other and push one another to advance. This is not something to be swept under the rug or pushed aside. This problem must be solved.
