Most people believe a person is born with a personality that is passed on to them through their family’s gene pool. But no one is really born with a concept of themselves. Personality, love, freedom, justice, morals, and reality are all products of social interaction; so basically humans are the social creation of society and a person’s personally is developed through socialization, This is the reason out of the home-schooling is so important and is such an essential need for people’s lives. Just ask Horace Mann because he codified the myth of empowerment through education.
A compelling example of Mann’s teaching would be Anna Davis. Anna Davis is what one would call a feral child – a person who is confined and denied normal social interaction with other people. Anna’s grandfather refused to acknowledge her existence and to escape his rage; Anna’s mother put her daughter in the attic and except for minimal feedings basically ignored her. Around the age of six, Anna was discovered by a social worker. She could not sit up or walk. She could not talk and was believed to be deaf...
What makes a person who they are is a difficult dilemma. Mark Twain's novel, "Pudd'nhead Wilson and Those Extraordinary Twins" is a critical analysis of how nature and nurture can cultivate emotions and free will, which in turn affects the life of individuals. "Twain's faltering sense of direction began about slavery, moral decay, and deceptive realities (Kaplan 314). The debate of `nature versus nurture' has been one of the most intriguing scientific and cultural issues for most of the twentieth century, in determining the behavioral aspects of human beings. The changes in environment, society, education, political influences, family values and morals and other external influences, combined with physical genes determines how mankind will evolve into adulthood. Both nature and nurture, in combination with emotions and free will, control the behavior of human beings and determines who we are.
Homeschooling is becoming more popular in today’s society then before. Homeschooling is teaching school subjects to one’s children at home (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). But is homeschooling the best way to educate children? Homeschooling can bring more positive outcomes versus public or private schooling. This is because homeschooling can bring many benefits such as family orientation, no worries about bullies, less exposure to bad influences like drugs. Also it has a good success rate, adaptable cost, and flexibility. Homeschooling will keep increasing year by year. According to Dr. Brian D. Ray about 2% to 8% per annum was the growth over the past few years. For these and many more reasons is why parents choose to home school their children.
Homeschooling is an education that gives parents choices and the right to teach their child however they want, but are the parents’ wants what the children need. Parents want to give their children moral instruction or want to teach them based on their religious beliefs and parents do have the right to do that because it is their child, but there are specific things that are essential for a child to learn or to experience. There are religious schools that give children an education on their faith and academically. Homeschooling doesn’t work because states have varying or no regulations on curriculum, some parents just aren’t equipped to teach their children, and homeschooled kids do not experience socialization. Parents don’t have to show how their child is performing academically, some parents only have a high school diploma or less, and homeschooled children are missing an important element of life because they aren’t learning or participating in class discussions or activities in a classroom setting.
Homeschooling, could this be the future of the America? What are some benefits of homeschooling verses traditional schooling? Homeschooling has been around for quite some time now. Most families choose to home school their children for a number of reasons, the main reason from my understanding of the readings is Religion. Other reasons very from the type of environments public schools provide to their child not getting enough attention. We could go on and on about the different reason parents choose to homeschool their kids. Homeschooling your kids the right way takes a lot of time, money, and resources for it to be done right and for the kids to benefit from it. Public school teachers specialize in their specific areas weather its Math,
Homeschooling is an unusual punishment inflicted upon many children in America. School is a place to be educated, make friends, find out who you are and learn life lessons. Homeschooling doesn't allow a child to independently develop. They are hidden from the real world. This causes many problems later in life.
“Personality is the combination of thoughts, emotions and behaviors that makes everyone unique. It 's the way people view, understand and relate to the outside world, as well as how they see themselves. Personality forms during childhood, shaped through an interaction of these factors: Genetics and Environment.” (Staff M. C., 2013) Genetics plays a major role in a person’s life because this has to deal with the person’s genes, DNA, and also traits. Each individual inherited two copies of genes, one from each parent. The type of genes passed down to a child can affect the lifestyle of that child if there are any possible disorders or diseases. The environment around us shapes who we are as an individual. Different environments gives off different behavioral skills. If there are any negative influences in the environment, such as violence in the home or community, this solely affects the way an individual is
The most common question asked to children and teenagers is usually, “where do you go to school?” Some children and teens respond quickly with, “Jackson Prep, Madison High, etc.” Others shuffle their feet and mutter, “homeschooled.” Why is homeschooling such a taboo subject? It’s because, in modern times, the word “homeschooling” is often associated with crazy parents and poorly socialized and undereducated children, who use the bible for a curriculum. But, others know homeschoolers to be kind, well adjusted, intelligent, and hardworking students. So who is right? An article by the Minnesota Homeschoolers Alliance states Homeschooled children are well socialized and out perform their public school counter parts. Journalist Margret Boyce says
The debate over home schooling has been a hot topic for many over the past few years. Home schooling can be defined as, “to teach school subjects to one’s children at home” (Merriam-Webster Online, 2003). However, the main debate is not over whether or not children should be taught at home; rather, the question debated is if home-schooled children are as prepared socially as those children who are traditionally schooled.
Whether a family chooses to home school or send their child to public school has become a great concern for many parents. There are many important differences and similarities between the two. The choice a family makes will not be the same for all because they should base their decision on what is best for the family. Furthermore, a family should ponder the facts of both, home school and public school, before opting out one for the other.
Confucius said that by personality, human beings are born with comparatively the same faculties and needs. Apparently there are exemptions at either tremendous and of the continuum, but in common human beings are all very comparable at birth. Based upon the actions of human beings, the feedback that humans receive in reaction and change in their behavior in response to the feedback, they each begin to undertake a different pathway. This deed feedback change process shapes the experiences of humans, creating their unique personal lives (Van and Bryan 11). In the illustration above, Confucius reveals that what humans have in common by personality is their potential for devel...
The American Educational System is not what it used to be. Many people fear the falling standards of the United States’ public school system. What with the harsh social environment, the controversial curriculum, the overpaid, corrupt teachers with their own agenda, and the exposure to horrifying new ideas and ways of thinking; Or at least this is what the paranoid parents of the United States have led themselves to believe. Anything looks bad when you look at it in such harsh light. Granted, there are a few (or several ) flaws in the Public Educational System but rather than make an attempt to help fix these problems, parents take it upon themselves to educate their own children and “fix” them. This alternative form of education known as Home School gives parents the opportunity to teach their children as they see fit. However, this method of schooling can prove to be more harmful to the child rather than helpful.
We build a personality or identity by absorbing our interactions and experiences in an on-going life course. Gender, race, love, family are just some of the many aspects that go into making you, you. We ask this question often, and in reality, the answer is right there in front of us. Our family and parents help us grow up into young individuals searching for the next step in our future. Gender determines how we go about our daily endeavors. And lastly, love brings us closer to an individual that will help us figure out our true identity. Ultimately making socialization the answer to the scariest question we ask.
Webster’s Dictionary defines to homeschool as teach your children at home instead of sending them to a school (Merriam-Webster). This is to say that parents teach their own children at home instead of having them go to public, private, or parochial schools. The three main controversies are the socialization of homeschooling children versus public schooling, the educational quality, and the cost difference. These all basically are over the fact that many believe that homeschooled children are very sheltered and protected from the world around them.
Imagine a world where every relied on other people. Say you needed your mum to help you with your homework but your mum relied on your dad for calculations but your dad relied on his teacher so your teacher needs to come to your house but guess what he needs his wife and then it goes on for ever which is where this world his heading because people of all ages can’t figure things out for them self’s.
ABSTRACT: Home schooling is a controversial topic among educators. The issues that follow a child throughout their educational and social lives, are elevated when a child has been home schooled. There is no social environment for the child to learn to develop basic social skills; most home schooling environments are made up of a child, perhaps accompanied by a sibling, and the parent teaching the information given. There is no room for a developed personality that is constant with a child of equal age and grade in a normal schooling environment. Other problems include the quality of the teacher, lack of practice for standardized testing, bias grades, inconstant laws on home schooling from state to state, the overall education of a home schooled child, and the quality of the teacher. All these problems are explored, and discussed with in this essay.
