There are many professional artists that exhibit amazing creativity. In particular, the motion picture film Frida, which was directed by Julie Taymor, revealed the life of a creative artist named Frida Kahlo. Most of Frida’s paintings were results of complications and hardships in her life. Particularly In Frida, there various themes that related to her life. The three interesting themes that were represented in this movie to me were perseverance, sexuality, and artistic skill represented in pain. Frida encountered atypical experiences and situations, which made this movie quite interesting.

Frida was a strong woman that persevered despite the many traumatic situations throughout her life. The first trauma scene of the movie was when she was on a trolley with a friend. During the trolley ride, the vehicle crashed into a building, which hurt her body. The severity of the impact crushed her body in certain areas. Frida was rushed to the hospital and when she woke, she learned was in a coma. Her bones were broken and it hindered her ways in walking and functioning like her peers and family. That accident didn’t stop her from pursuing her dream. Instead of just laying in the bed hopeless, she decided to draw pictures and paint them. This accident helped her to focus solely on her art, which gave her art its peculiar look. Also she persevered through her relationship with her lover Diego Rivera, when he expressed infidelity. When Diego married Frida, he knew that he couldn’t be completely faithful. Frida figured that aspect out about him and stuck with him. She would in fact participate in the same type of acts of infidelity, just because she knew what Diego did. Seems as if Frida took part on the famous phrase, “If you can...

In this portrait, Frida was sitting in the middle of a room with scissors in her hand and chucks of hair on the floor. Paintings like these ones, gave her recognition. She became a well-known important female artist based on her depictions of her pain.

In conclusion, Frida was a concrete portrayal of the life of Frida Kahlo. The three themes that I got from the movie was Frida’s sense of perseverance, sexuality and her artistic gifts that related to pain. The director of the movie did an excellent job at illustrating these themes and how they relate to her life. Frida was a creative woman in art and I appreciated the film for elucidating her life and its specialness.
