This assignment has been developed to discuss the consumption of alcohol in young people in Britain, and to suggest possible solutions for the young people of today and to also carry onto the next generation. I will also research why young people feel the need to drink and what attracts them to alcohol, also this assignment will look into who is more susceptible to drinking alcohol, this could be male or female also the health risks to heavy or binge drinking, and what can be done to prevent binge drinking. One of the most common reasons for young people to drink alcohol is to experiment and to also satisfy their curiosity on the effects of alcohol and to feel grownup. (Quoted below by Newburn & Shiner, 2000) “12-13 year olds start tentatively experimenting with alcohol usually within the family environment this reflects a desire especially in boys to move on from child status. 16 17 year olds have moved on from experimentation and see themselves as more responsible drinkers, with an awareness of their own limits. They are more open with their parents about drinking and see their drinking behaviour as a sign of maturity and experience by drinking more like adults” Also parent’s alcohol problems at home may encourage young people to drink as this would possibly appear normal, “it is estimated that 800 000 to 1.3 million school-age children are effected by their parents’ drinking” (Mary Helen Spooner 2... ... middle of paper ... ...ttp://ukpmc.ac.uk/articlerender.cgi?artid=1194514 3. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/3981161/Drunken-celebrities-are-poor-role-models.html 4. http://www.ias.org.uk/resources/factsheets/adolescents.pdf 5. http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/AA67/AA67.htm 6. http://www.moneyhospital.co.uk/blog/post/teenagers-get-1000-pocket-money 7. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7282308.stm 8. http://www.newcastle.gov.uk/condiary.nsf/all/300227D28C873C8580257443005CD716/$FILE/Alcohol%20Strategy%20citylife%20.pdf 9. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8242385.stm 10. http://www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/site/scripts/press_article.php?pressReleaseID=21 11. http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/AA67/AA67.htm 12. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article2116224.ece 13. http://www.ias.org.uk/resources/factsheets/adolescents.pdf
