Exploitation in the world today is a major problem with there being a few different types of exploitation. Trafficking, sweatshop working, and slavery are the three major types of exploitation. Money is the biggest reason why there is exploitation in the world today. The only way for exploitation in the world today to end is for poverty and greed to end. I will further more talk about all of these topics to show just how bad exploitation is and how there aren't many ways for it to be stopped.
Trafficking and sweatshop working are the most common forms of exploitation in the United States today. Trafficking occurs when a poor individual is offered job opportunities to make money and persuaded that these opportunities are good jobs. Then the poor individual agrees to work and then is forced to work as a prostitute, abused laborer or a servant. Sweatshop working occurs in the corporate environment today and is when the average businessman works around the clock for his company and doesn't receive career advancements or raises but the CEO is becoming richer and richer. In both of these cases of exploitation, there is a person who is getting rich or making a lot of money off of someone else who is doing all the work. Trafficking is a problem for the world because it is not only doing nothing to help poverty in the world but it is making it worse. These poor people who are trying to make a living and work out of being poor are having their money taken from them or are not even making enough money to get out of poverty which is keeping poverty rates low. Corporate sweatshop working is also just as bad for the world because the economy is not being boosted by having the CEO's of companies becoming richer. The economy would be so much stronger if the millions that these CEO's are making is divided and dispersed to the employees who are doing all the work. The economy suffers from both trafficking and corporate sweatshop working.
Slavery is the other type of exploitation the world is encountering today. Although, every country in the world today has made it illegal to own and exercise total control over another human being, slavery is still a major problem in the world. Slavery today isn't like the slavery that use to take place. Today slavery is even worse.
Slavery will continue to be the furthermost deplorable phenomena of this world. Beings crying for freedom and liberty from oppression is very unnatural and provokes a heartfelt of different emotions from many individuals. Some people do not comprehend the probability of one individual considering another human being as its slave, some are the children of those who used to be slaves years ago and some have challenged slavery in the contemporary times. Slavery is a notion in which a human being is converted into a “thing” as he/she becomes a prospect in the form of exploitation as they become the private property of the slave owner. Slavery has always been a large issue and possibly always will. The issues of today are often negative but did you know that back in ancient Roman times they were all for it? Well they were! The question that will be answered in this assessment is "In what ways, if any, has slavery changed from ancient to modern times?" I believe that slavery has changed very much from the past. Not that there may be more or less of it, but that it may be harsher and have worse conditions.
In the early 1990s insurance companies, in attempt to control spiraling medical costs, created what would be termed “health maintenance organizations”, also known as HMOs. What HMOs do is create a team of physicians and medical personnel that the patients agrees to use. Within the contracts both the patient and the doctor sign, limits and restrictions are put on what the hospital will reimburse and what they will or will not provide in order to keep the costs down. At the beginning, these organizations were successful in bringing medical costs down and has made health insurance more affordable than ever. However, the contracts that the HMOs have you sign basically limits the doctor on how he or she can treat their patients, thus putting their job as the physician in the hands of the HMO. As profits began to go up and down these organizations have put more effort into keeping their costs down and have lost sight of actually caring fir the patients they are insuring.
Slavery is one of the issues that was, is and has been a major concern in the world. The nature of contemporary slavery is unknown, but estimates show that there are millions of victims of slavery across the globe. Slavery covers a wide variety of human rights violations such as sexual mutilation of men, women and children, child prostitution, sale of orphans, child pornography and many others. On the other hand, human trafficking is an area of concern that involves recruiting, transporting, buying or selling a person by means of force or fraud for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation or forced labor. Human trafficking deprives the victims of their human rights, and is one of the causes for the spread of sexually transmitted diseases
Varying in size, these companies act as a middleman between the patient and the medical facility finance office. All having slight variations, the abundance of insurers can cause confusion and often times incorrect billing. Insurance companies unlike individuals are able to negotiate a discounted payment with the hospital, but at a steep price. Of the considerable amount of money the United States put into the health industry, 35% of it went to paying for administration cost of both the insurer and the hospital (Brill,Steven, pg.34-43, Time). It should be no surprise then that the United States leads the world in every category of health care cost, often times charging twice more than the second most expensive country.

Even though trafficking is a problem in almost every country; poorer countries have a bigger problem with it because they are more desperate for work. Just in 2000, the U.S. enacted their first federal anti-trafficking law, called the Victims of Trafficking Protection Act (At Issue: Human Trafficking 1). Trafficking has just begun to receive notice on how big of a problem it actually is. “Proponents of strict anti-trafficking initiatives say that laws and prevention against trafficking are necessary in order to stem the growing tide of large scale organized crime that profits off of smuggling and trafficking” (At Issue: Human Trafficking 1).
Slavery, like many ill-fated and evil inventions reached epidemic levels in early Europe and the American colonies. The history of slavery is documented most acutely during the period when slaves first arrived to the new land and when the colonies had first developed into the fledging United States of America. This would lead us to believe that slavery had not existed before this period or that the consequences and relevance of it had little historical, social, or economical importance. While some of this might be true, the act of enslaving other human being has existed for hundreds of before the Europeans ever reached and explored the continent of Africa. Proponents of slavery could argue that it is just a natural step in the evolution and development of civilized man. Historic data revealed that the African people form of enslavement on one another was drastically different then European and American way. Healthcare services have been on the rise for over 10 years now. According to a 2012 consumer alert, the industry provided $2.26 trillion in payments for more than four billion health insurance benefit claims in the year 2011(Fraud in Health Care). The bulk of the claims and the mainstream of fraud and abuse stem from the Medicare system professionals, who are knowledgeable about the process and persuade new clients into handing over their pertinent information in hopes of deception and illegitimate claims. Multiple and double billing, fraudulent prescriptions, are some of the major flaws in this organization that has made the healthcare services industry curdle. (AGHAEGBUNA, 2011) This is a non-violet crime and is often committed by very educated people including business people, hospital, doctors, and administrators.
According to Karin Lehnardt from Fact Retriever in “five years or less, it has been predicted that human trafficking will surpass the drug trade”. As indicated on hopeforjustice.org, noun human trafficking is “the illegal movement of people, typically for the purpose of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation.” If one was to know how large the drug trade is, you would understand how devastating this statistic is. “Human trafficking has become a modern form of slavery”, quoted from the Polaris website. People around the globe consider this trade because it is a multi billion industry for criminals that reject the independence of about 20.9 billion people. Human trafficking involves women, children as well as men, but the human traffickers are rather known for kidnapping women. When the victims are being used as slaves for someone else’s personal use they are also being physically and mentally abused by their overseer to rip apart their self esteem and confidence. These helpless victims are commonly kidnapped, taken by force and drugged and shipped off to another country to be taken advantage of as sex slaves
One of the main causes of human trafficking is vulnerability. For example, children are more vulnerable to trafficking because of their lack of understanding and experience. Additionally, in certain societies, women are less empowered than men thus resulting in gender inequality both at home and in the workplace. Gender inequality then leads to easy exploitation through the use of force or threats. Human trafficking can be curbed by combating the underlying causes that make people vulnerable.
Anytime we hear the word “slavery”, we tend to think of the Southern United States during the Pre-Civil War era. What many people don’t know, is that this horrible act has occurred worldwide! The term “slavery” has many different definitions, and has occurred all throughout our world history. It wasn’t until the early 18th century that the thought of anti-slavery came about. Many economic, social, and technological forces have played a part in the decline of slavery around the globe.
The word “slavery” brings back horrific memories of human beings. Bought and sold as property, and dehumanized with the risk and implementation of violence, at times nearly inhumane. The majority of people in the United States assumes and assures that slavery was eliminated during the nineteenth century with the Emancipation Proclamation. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth; rather, slavery and the global slave trade continue to thrive till this day. In fact, it is likely that more individuals are becoming victims of human trafficking across borders against their will compared to the vast number of slaves that we know in earlier times. Slavery is no longer about legal ownership asserted, but instead legal ownership avoided, the thought provoking idea that with old slavery, slaves were maintained, compared to modern day slavery in which slaves are nearly disposable, under the same institutionalized systems in which violence and economic control over the disadvantaged is the common way of life. Modern day slavery is insidious to the public but still detrimental if not more than old American slavery.
