Experiencing Classical Music in the Flesh

On April 12 of 2014, a well-known group of singers known as Poperazzi joined forces with the Pueblo Symphony. The event took place at Colorado State University Pueblo in Hoag Hall. The symphony officially began at 7:30 p.m. however audience members began to arrive at 7:00 p.m. The conductor of the Pueblo Symphony is Dr. Jacob Chi, and the singers consisted of two tenor voices and one soprano. The names of the singers are George DeMott, Cody Shawn Gay, and Janien Valentine. The two tenor voices are the males, George and Cody Shawn. The soprano voice is a female, Janien Valentine. The orchestra itself consists of seven of the violins I, six violins II, six violas, six cellos, three bass players, three flutes, three oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, four French horns, three trumpets, three trombones, one tuba, three percussion instruments, one electric bass, one piano, and one harp.
Poperazzi is a pretty well-known group of three singers whom first debuted in 2009. Each singer originated from a different place in the United States and together they sing Italian based songs. Many of the songs they perform are classical and even early twentieth century repertoire. Many of their songs are ones we have heard and studied in this class. According to the Music Program given at the concert, “Poperazzi blurs the boundaries between classical and popular music”. The program went on to say “These versatile entertainers are like a classic Vegas martini, performing a delicate musical mix of opera with a twist!” (Poperazzi Music Program). Poperazzi has their own website as well, in which their biographies are posted, along with videos, photos, merchandise, calendar dates, and their contact information.
