From the moment I starting my educational path I knew four years wouldn’t be enough to fill me with all the dimensions of the fashion industry. This led me to make my decision to apply for the M.S. Global Fashion Enterprise degree. When asked how this program at Philadelphia University would benefit me, I will begin by giving a background on my previous education. I started my undergraduate degree at Buffalo State College in upstate New York pursuing a Bachelor degree in Fashion Merchandising. After being in the program for a year I was confident in knowing I needed a change. My journey changed drastically when I moved down to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I transferred to the Art Institute under the same major. I will be graduating …show more content…
From the beginning I have always promised to never stop learning, I view my education not only as training to master a skill but as a lifestyle. In addition to pursing my full time Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising, I was involved in the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale’s Honor Program. This opportunity was split up into four courses and consisted of me planning and executing nine fashion events that were either private or were coordinated around the Fashion Design Department. Some events I have helped in coordinating are, the Mercedes Benz Fashion Swim Week, Indie Fest, Joe DiMaggio Baby, Love and Family Expo, Not My Daughter Breast Cancer Awareness, Chocolate Allure, Simon Fashion Now, Worth Avenue and Winterfest Boat Parade. The final project of this program was to plan a successful fashion event on my own. That event was a gallery exhibit, called ‘Exposed’ which showcase fashion styling imagery and the final Fashion Design Bachelor Degree graduates final collections. The show was a success and allowed me to master my skills are an event
Nina said at first she didn’t attend a school for fashion but she did eventually. ‘I went to Boston University. My father was very adamant that I needed a career that was not just fashion design. In a way, he was right. So I went to University, and I did liberal arts, and then after I finished I moved to New York, and I went to the Fashion Institute of Technology (one of the biggest fashion schools in New York). I studied fashion and fashion merchandising. By then, I realized that I wasn’t cut out to be a designer.’ A follow up question Cassandra asked her was ‘Did your parents like fashion as much as you?’ and she said that her dad didn’t but her mom loved fashion just as much as her, if not more. She loved fashion and her closet was this oasis of color and shapes and prints and high-heeled shoes that I was dying to wear, and it was all in a walk in closet that I had no access to. So I think that that also peaked my interest, like when you can’t get in somewhere. I remember it was like Ali Baba’s cave! There was jewelry, and there were colors, and there were clothes, and heels, and all you want to do is go in

With African Americans being apart of the fashion industry, they faced many hardships. However, they created a distinctive voice in the history of fashion. Throughout the early twentieth century, Blacks designers influenced the fashion industry in America, having, “a system and structure for maintaining their particular type of fashion.” African American fashion was very popular and caught the attention from the media. Department stores held successful fashion shows, screened fashion movies, and staged fashion pageants. Fortunately, African Americans were allowed to attend these events, yet they were not welcomed. Fast-forward to today, the fashion industry has opened up several doors for African American designers, stylist, and models. However,
This profession also has a large business aspect to it and that intrigues me a lot. I have grown up always listening to my dad talk about business and the market and how “the business world” is very important, I’ve have just become more and more interested in finding out all about that. The world of fashion is something that I have always wanted to be a part of, and now, I am working my way there.
Overall, this book was a big eye opener for me. For the longest time I was worried that I was the only one who wanted a career in fashion, that had no idea about anything inside the fashion world. Odell was able to make me feel like I was not alone and gave good insight on what to expect when going into job interviews and working in this industry. This book is a must read for not just people interested in the fashion industry, but also for younger adults who are wondering what they should expect during interviews, and how they should put themselves out there in order for them to grow in any
Fashion has been around ever since ancient times, since the time of the Romans, it survived the world wars and is yet today a business with rapid changes. Fashion started off as an art form, a way for the riches to show their social status with unique and innovative designs that only they could afford. It was a way to separate the social classes of the society. In this paper I will include the creator of haute couture, and how the following designers developed couture, as well as having leading names in today’s ready-to-wear industry. The list is long, but I chose to focus on the three most important designers of the modern fashion industry.
Encountering designers is where it all began. Fashion in the world has been intriguing to young minds for years. in the fashion industry one should always not that being different with a since of creativity is far more beautiful than the normal. One much trust and have the courage and bravery to match the thoughts and ideas together and turning them into reality. One must never close their eyes, because in a blink of an eye an opportunity can shoot by and one may never be able to reveal what that opportunity came to be.
Thesis: With the unregulated practices that goes on in the Fashion Industry, change is one notion that this abusive yet glamorous business have yet to see.
In the twenty-first-century fashion world, fashion no longer refers to clothing trends and accessories. It is any sort of production of goods and services that have a business or cultural value. Fashion is so important in today's time, not just socially but economically as well. In today’s time, nothing is able to exist without some sort of uniform or line of fashion. Fashion sets the tone in almost any area of activity no matter what event, place, or reason, people are always questioning what is proper to wear and if it is in. One concern or mutation in the fashion world is the speed of consumption and renewal by the logic of fashion that is being accelerated year after year, generating visible effects such as the depletion of natural resources and the alternation of the environment. Younger generations do not take interest in past events because most say that they were not born at the time when the event happened so it is not as important to them but it

Cape Town and Johannesburg ranked 27th and 37th respectively as global fashion capitals in 2014 (Fin24, 2014). This is proof of South Africa’s growing influence on the rest of the world. Our own fashion influence in our country is stronger than the European and American
Fashion takes on many different facets and concerns many subsets— a model sashaying down the runway in a gown encrusted in real gems, Lady Gaga’s infamous dress made of cuts of raw beef, a teenage girl obsessing over the season’s latest styles— it is all an expression of our minds and who we are or want to be, made tangible. It is a medium just like any other, for while artists wield brushes and paints, designers use thread and cloth to illustrate their vision. The artistry is none more so apparent than in the exclusive world of haute couture, a world of extravagance that caters to aesthetics, producing one-of-a-kind wearable masterpieces that are made to be admired rather than worn. It is without doubt, high fashion and its design is an art.
...is instilled in me, that I must gain as much knowledge as possible in order to succeed in life. In the fashion industry, one must continue to learn about the world around them in order to keep up with the changes in the industry. There are many different ways today that I can keep up with what is going on in the fashion world without going to school, but school will prepare me for the challenges that are to come. The only previous work experience that I had working in a fashion was at Mortal Kombat. I did not stay at the job very long because of personal issues that I had with staff. I feel that I need to get involved in some type of fashion job so that I can network better. Networking is essential in the fashion business, because you may never see people that you want to talk to but word-of-mouth can open doors that lead you in the direction that you wanted to go.
While growing up, I realized the benefits a person has when they personally own their own business. You can make your own schedule, personally control your finances, and essentially have complete control of your business Of course upon this realization; I came to the conclusion that I was going to be my own boss. I have always taken pride in how I present myself including how I dress. The limitless nature of fashion and its versatility has always intrigued me. One empowering aspect of clothing that is so fascinating is how it enables people to express themselves. Because of these interests, I have come to the conclusion that I wish to own a fashion boutique. In order to pursuit the path of becoming a fashion boutique owner, it is essential that I obtain a degree in business management, evaluate my own skills that make me ideal for the job, and
