For the past 50 years technology has evolved in a variety of different ways from bulky to sleek cellular devices, to the way people receive news and communicate. The changes of technology play a big part in the media and how it is used. The technological changes made throughout these time periods have made communication and the media widely spread.
The 60s brought along many new changes in the way media is produced. The use of the television in the 60s played a very important role in the media for these times dealt with not only political changes but also social, cultural, and psychological changes. From civil rights issues to cult movements and student protests Americans were faced with many different situations that affected everyday life. Television news broadcasts kept Americans informed as to the many situations going on in the world. The most important and frequently broadcasted situation was the Vietnam War. As more news is being covered on the TV, the perception of the public continued to increase. One important development made on the television was the launch of the communications satellite known as, Telstar 1, in space. This was the world’s first international communications satellite and was put in orbit on July 10 which collaborated with NASA and the Belle system. This satellite was named Telstar and allowed calls to be “bounced” off of a satellite and to a switching station. Followed by the use of more satellites in 1962 reports of news from around the world were being transmitted directly to a broadcast center. This made major world events become broadcasted in real- time via the television.
