Cell phones were not the tools of communication that they are now (Klotz). Beginning with the simplest of technologies, phones have become more and more complex and are beginning to have an effect on people. People are starting to think that they need their phones (Argentine). Although many people have phones, they may not be as great as one would think.
The invention of the telephone began with Alexander Graham Bell. He opened a school for the deaf and had the idea of transporting speech through wires. It all began when he accidentally spilled acid on his clothing while testing circuits. He called to his assistant and figured out that the receiver could send and receive voice messages by the use of electricity (Willams). His telephone depended on electromagnetism and electromagnetic induction. The voices of people speaking into the telephone causes air to vibrate, and mechanical vibrations of sound cause the diaphragm of the telephone transmitter to vibrate (Pasachoff). Alexander fully developed the phone system on February 14, 1876 and by 1877 the Bell Telephone Company was created. Less than a decade later, 150,000 Americans had phones of their own (Williams).
Phones have continued to change since they were created. In the 1990s, they were large sized with long antennas. Throughout the decade, phones became more stylish with upgraded features and models with shortened antennas. Internal antennas were then invented, making phones take up less space. While in the early 2000s, phones were no longer black and white; they incorporated color in their display (SV:SV). Outside screens on phones, cameras in phones, and larger inside screens were also introduced. Although a lot of advancements were made, there would be...

In the essay “Our Cell Phones, Our Selves” written by Christine Rosen, the author presents a brief history on how cell phones were introduced into society and how this artifact changed people’s interactions in the physical space. Rosen describes the first cell phone that appeared in 1983 as “hardly elegant,” big and expensive (458). Cell phones at that time were mainly used by important and affluent people. However, seven years later, cell phones became smaller and affordable provoking a big change in society. This big technological advance did not only affect the United States, but the entire world.
Alexander Bell had called it the “Harmonic phone”.He had a hard time with money for his project; so two local investors gave him money.. Alexander Bell had worked day and night to perfect his idea. During this time Alexander Bell become highly interested with other inventions, transmitting the human voice over wire. Bell had worked with a man named Watson and they started to work on the first ever harmonic telegraphing and transmitting device. On March 10, 1876 they were successful. The first word ever to come across phones where “Mr. Watson come here; I want you, said Alexander Bell They started to promote and sell their device. Alexander Bell had started a new company called the Bell Telephone Company, with later became to be know as the American Telephone Company. The First phone used was in Wisconsin In 1877 when Appleton banker Alfred Galpin put a line from his house to the local bank. Several months later, he built a homemade switchboard for twenty-five telephones in Appleton. The next form of telecommunication came in The 1890’s when the “CandleStick” phone was made. Almon Strowger had invented the CandleStick
To begin with, the Invention that Alexander Graham Bell is most remembered for is the telephone. I will explain the idea, how it works, and the story behind it. First, the harmonic telephone was just an idea till about the year 1874 when Mr. Bell started work on the phone to send multiple telegraph messages at one time. This device would take a telegraph line to transfer the human voice from one place to another. For this job he hired a man named Thomas A. Watson, electrical designer. Second, the way this machine works is that the transmitter was in one room with metal strings attached to the device. Which looked like a cone connected to metal strings. Those strings would stretch out of the room to a different room. In the other room the receiver was there this looked like an 8 ounce cup of water. These two things were the transmitter and receiver of the first telephone from 1876. Thirdly, the story behind the telephone made it even more special that Mr. Bell actually made the telephone in Canada and was never an American citizen yet got the protection of invention by the United States of America. This story all started when Alexander was in his room working on the phone and his partner...
The telephone was said to be invented by Alexander Graham Bell, some critics believe that the real inventor was a man named Elisha Gray. After many debates people commonly now believe that Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone. Inspired by his deaf parents he wanted to invent something that people could use easily and was easy to access. So he worked on his invention day and night for many days. Eventually He got the perfect thing that he had been looking for. He had finally invented a device that you could hear human voices through technology. On March 7, 1876 after all of Alexander G. Bell’s hard work he patented his great invention...
The telephone was invented in 1870 by Gray and Bell, who then battled over the true inventor of the telephone, which Bell won. Bell then began experimenting with electrical signs, which brought the telegraph to be an established means of communication (Bellis). In 1876, Bell made his first call to Thomas A. Watson in March. People thought Bell’s invention was a toy, but later people wanted a phone installed in their homes, towns, or businesses. In 1877, the first telephone appeared in Wisconsin by Alfred Galpin (Jelen).

Nowadays, mobile phones have become one of the first (if not the first) needed technologies of the century. People lives are becoming more dependent of the usage of this device and the users have not being able to administer their time they dedicate to text and to talk. Years pass and people keep on depending more and more on this gadget to keep on living. It is really different from past times where people didn’t even have phones at their homes. Now everybody has gotten used to making these devices their only way of getting what they want or need at any time. Nevertheless, all of this is to be expected from the actual society because they were born in times where this technology has already taken the majority of the importance, so they are not used to using other options. Cellphones came to the world to never disappear. They hav...
In 1874, the idea of creating a telephone came to his mind. By 1875, he came up with an easy way to turn electricity into sound. This became known as the telephone. Although other people were working to create the telephone too, Alexander was credited with creating the first telephone. He was the first to design the telephone and the first to transmit human voices into the electric current. On March 7, 1876, Alexander was granted a patent for the telephone. No more than a year later, Connecticut built the first telephone exchange. In 1877, the Bell Telephone Company was created. Bell was the owner and shared a third of his company, and quickly the company made him a wealthy man. By 1880, French Volta Prize awarded Alexander Bell for the invention, the telephone. With the money Bell earned from his award, he founded a lab in Washington, where he continued to do experiments in medical research, in communication, and in techniques for teaching speech to the deaf. Helen Keller was someone that Bell worked with for teaching speech to the deaf(www.bbc.co.uk). Alexander refused to have a telephone in his study, scared that it would distract him from all the scientific work that he was working
As the consumption of iPhones grows, so does the impact it inflicts. To begin to understand how this device has impacted our society, one must analyze the aesthetics. According to Goggin (2009), two principles that separate the iPhone from mobile phones are “design and customization” (p. 232). The design of an iPhone is very clean and simple, which is beneficial for any type of user to operate, especially those who struggle with new technology. Better yet, the technology is always improving. The iPhone’s operating system, known as iOS, is constantly refining and polishing its design and features. Due to this, iPhones are becoming more resourceful, user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. On the customization side, being able to control more of what your mobile device does is a very convincing feature that makes the iPhone stand out. The iPhone gives users an abundance of options to cater their device to their perso...
On March 10th, 1876, a revolutionary invention was created by Alexander Graham Bell. The telephone was invented to send vibrations from one receiver to another electrically (History.com ‘Speech Transmitted by Telephone’ accessed on March 11, 2014), and due to Alexander Graham Bell accidentally discovering that he could hear the sound of a ‘clock spring twanging’ (Marry Bellis, ‘The History of the Telephone’ accessed on March 11, 2014), that was possible. The invention of the telephone permitted new levels of communication, allowed families connect around the world, and improved military systems, but also served negative consequences, such as breached privacy. If two people wanted to have a conversation, they would have to write letters back and forth, but with the telephone they were able to pick up the receiver, dial the number, and be connected in a matter of minutes. Telephones enabled long-distance communication, which allowed families to converse despite their location. Military officials and soldiers were also able to stay in touch through field telephones as well as keep contact with the president. Although telephones were originally placed in general stores or other major city locations and homes/neighborhoods that were wired (Elon.edu ‘World Changes Due to the Telephone’ accessed on April 2, 2014), telephones became commonly used in homes in the early twentieth century when telephones began to connect internationally.
Cell phones have become a part of mainstream culture. Recently they have become more affordable and accomplish much more than making and receiving calls. Along with the growing popularity there is also growing concerns about safety and health. In this paper we will address cell phone history and how they have evolved. We will discuss health concerns such as tumors and talking while driving. Finally, we will talk about all of the technology that cell phones can accomplish such as receiving Email and buying stocks.
The year is 2014, the markets are changing constantly, and they always have to meet the needs of new consumers as well as old consumers. Mobile telephones have been in the retail and wholesale business for quite some time, and are only evolving from here on out. There are things that these cell phones can bring us that are major benefits in our everyday lives. Cell phones bring us maps, radios, address books, and even flashlights now. Cell phones have taken shape from a huge portable device to a more convenient thin device that can fit in your pocket. With time in any consumer market, the consumer adapts to the technology that makes their life easier. The constant innovation of cell phones has led us to smart phones, and these smart phones are capable of putting certain businesses out of the market. Businesses that engineered PDAs in the past were met with challenges because smart phones are able to match their productivity. Land lines have become useless since everyone can afford a mobile device now. Listening to music has also switched from a traditional CD Player/MP3 Player to an everyday smart phone.
Despite the short amount of time since the introduction of the smartphone, the rapid development of the software and technology has had a tremendous effect on the everyday life in society today. The concept of communicating through a telephone was developed in the 1870s. Devices to transmit speech electrically were designed by Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell, but Bell's design was patented first. On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell achieved one of his greatest successes in the making of the telephone. This brought upon a major change in communication and gave leeway to the improvement of the telephone in the days to come (Bellis, 2013b). During the 20th century there were many innovations regarding the telephone. In 1973, the first call from a portable phone was made Martin Cooper, who was a Motorola researcher and executive at the time. Since its inception, the advancement of cell phones has been exponential (Bellis, 2013a). As a result, cell phones have changed how society works in today's world. Many people lack the insight of how cell phones, or in this case, smart phones, affect the people that use them. So the question is, how is the evolution of smart phones impacting our society?
The definition of a cell phone is a portable telephone that uses wireless cellular energy to send or receive messages or voice calls. The first people who were able to correctly demonstrate the usage of the first cell phone were two men by the names of John F. Mitchell and Martin Cooper. It had been named “The Jitterbug” . It looked like a big house phone. It also weighed about 2.3 pounds (or 1 kg) Only thing was, it had finally been able to be used in a different place than home. In the year 1983, the next cell phone that had become available was the DynaTac 8000x. It also looked like a big house phone, but that was the first phone to be publicly released.
Phones have changed over the past twenty years and have had a positive and negative effect on people. Man kind as find many ways to communicate and stay connected with each other and the most common way is by a cellphone. Phones Cellphones have become one apart of our daily lives and some people just cannot live without them. In fact people use them more like computes than an actual phone itself. Most people let their phones control their lives and if their not carful it could have some serious consequences. Phones continue to get more and more advanced as time moves forward. However, in the beginning phones had a tough time getting out to the public however, if it was not for the first step into technology we would not have the phones we have today.
