I agree with Watson’s argument that cloning is an inevitable event and that it is “the basis of many genetic diseases and unravel the biochemistry of diseases” (Watson pg.5). For that reason human cloning should not take us by surprise; however, it is necessary to involve the public since they are directly implicated. In order to allow people to decide on the issue of cloning, scientist are responsible of educating the society about cloning which permits the people to decide if there will place any restrictions on certain scientific research that affect social ethics. Thus, the informed society can decide without accounting any sort of unreliable data or biased information that might detain the progress of cloning. Ultimately, the society has a choice.
The consideration of ethics in science has been present throughout history. Certainly after WWII (with the existence of atomic weapons), several developed countries focused and invested fortunes in high-tech research because these countries wanted to be influential in international politics. “Science and technology have always been important to and driven by warfare” (NIEH 2012). Most countries want to be the sphere of influence and the best way to make an impact is through science. Consequently, the practice of science unavoidably brings ethical issues. In the 1960s, the United States formed the “Health and Human Services (HHS)) for protecting the rights and welfare of human research subjects and established the ethical standards for the conduct of research” (NIEH 2012). Bearing this in mind, scientist are responsible for educating the public to avoid the violation of ethical standards during cloning research.

By communicating, “A blanket declaration of the worldwide illegality of human cloning might be one result of a serious effort to ask the world in which direction it wished to move (pg. 6). The people are the last and most important voice and they need to be involved in everything that affects them directly. The society and scientists must work together to “concentrate on events unlikely to become reality within the next decade or two (pg.3)”, so we will be prepared to handle any unusual and innovative scientific matter. The way scientists present the complex scientific information will affect the people’ reaction. Basically, is not what you sell to the customer but how you sell it that gets you positive results.
