Relaxin is a hormone found in both men and women, however the hormone is much more evident in females. Relaxin is a small peptide hormone. It is made of linked amino acid chains that affect the endocrine system of animals including humans. The effect of relaxin is most apparent during the female reproductive cycle and during pregnancy.
In women relaxin is secreted into the circulatory system, from the corpus luteum in the ovaries and from the placenta in pregnant women. Women tend to have an increase in relaxin about fourteen days after ovulation or during the second half of the menstrual cycle. This increase in relaxin helps the uterus wall relax by preventing contractions and also preparing the uterus for pregnancy. If the individual does not get pregnant then relaxin levels will drop again.

Another form of prevention is to have a sufficient diet. A lot of women don’t eat enough calories to keep up with how many they are using and end up calorically deficient and/or dehydrated which will lead to fatigue. When athletes are fatigued they tend to neglect form and this is when injuries are likely to happen.
