The beginning of an active training is very important. It sets the tone for the entire program.Before starting a training program it is best to prepare yourself and the room for the meeting that is about to take place. Taking a look at your materials and attitude are keys to not being caught off guard, which could cause for embarrassment. A well-prepared trainer aids in all areas of the training program. Room design can help with the flow of the program. By breaking up the group in pods will make small groups easier, and by moving the tables into a U-shape will promote large discussion. Things such as not making participants comfortable or see you as the person in charge can make you training uncomfortable and possibly unproductive. Getting started within the first thirty minutes will set the tone for the rest of the program. This is a great time to ask questions, get participant feedback, and let participants know the rules of a session. To end the beginning of the beginning of the training review the agenda with the group and encourage the group to offer feedback. This application of agenda review will set the pace for the program. This will also give everyone a clear idea of what is to be expected for the day. By asking for feedback it will give participants a chance to feel comfortable speaking as well as addressing any of their needs.
Setting leadership in the group is a critical step every trainer needs to do. Participants need to know while their opinions are important the trainer is ultimately the ringleader. While establishing leadership it is possible to have one or more participants engage in negative behaviors where their goal is to derail the lessons at hand. To build teams up one must first build the skills needed to create a functional team. Defining goals, improving communication, managing conflict, and creating a positive atmosphere are a few examples of skills that are practical in team building. A trainer can teach these skills through a variety of methods in active training. However, there needs to be active participation through employees and leaders for training to be effective. For teams that don’t work well together, have the conflict or are just plain dysfunctional a team intervention may be necessary to repair these broken teams. During intervention activities opening teams up with warm-up exercises with help open employees up, it is important to give everyone an opportunity to speak.
