The call for education reform in America is greater now than ever before. However, unlike previous reform, experts are looking at how teacher performance is evaluated rather than making evaluation more frequent (Ripley). Traditionally, teacher performance is evaluated based on student test-score improvement, principle sit-in evaluations, and, in certain cases, an analysis by an outside observer. Student surveying is an informative method that can improve teacher evaluation. Traditional teacher evaluations unfairly judge an educator based on test scores and brief observational periods. To improve the educational system, teachers need to be evaluated properly. Student surveying is a reliable method capable of altering teacher evaluations to the benefit of all. As a student, I recognize student input helps students learn the most from their interaction and leads to improved performance on tests. Future teacher performance evaluations should incorporate student surveying.
