Lab certifications. According to the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) publications, accreditation assures the customers of the lab that it is a “competent source of testing and/or calibration services (ASCLD/LAB, 2015). Furthermore, accreditation ensures the lab is compliant with International Standards Organization (ISO) publication 17025-2005 requirements and any applicable requirements of ASCLD/LAB (ASCLD/LAB, 2015). The first step in the process is to purchase a copy of the ISO/IEC 17025-2005 standards from an authorized distributor, followed by completion and submission of the 2011-FSo 17025-2005 certification statement and the ASCLD/LAB international user license agreement (ASCLD/LAB, 2015).
Personnel certifications. The purpose of this section is to describe the certification our personnel will maintain and how we will ensure they maintain it. Therefore, the hiring of personnel transpires through a contracted acquisition strategy containing the requirement that staffed personnel must be certified in the applicable areas upon appointment to the positions advertised. Furthermore, annual certification maintenance fees associated with continuing professional education standards of the certifying authority will be reimbursable through the company. However, qualified personnel should possess one or more of the following certifications and sufficient experience to fulfill the duties assigned in the position descriptions. Additionally, as personnel will be hired already holding the required certifications, costs detailed here will primarily be for training and recertification. Training may include initial and continuing education units of training. Certifications such as CFCE require recertification every third year. As re-certification is typically included in annual membership of certifying associations, and each employee may hold multiple certifications, re-certification cost is calculated assuming two annual memberships per employee are required. Other personnel costs such as salary will be covered elsewhere. The costs are estimates for IACIS training and certification, including travel. (IACIS, 2015) Other training and re-certification may be required, but costs should be equivalent. Personnel certification costs are summarized in Table 5.
