School psychologists are able to be employed in multiple settings due to their varied knowledge and practices. Varied knowledge of models and methods of assessment and data collection methods can be used for many purposes. Purposes such as to identify strengths and weaknesses in established services and programs, allow for the development of new and effective services and programs, and to measure progress and outcomes. School psychologists use both psychological and educational assessment, data collection, and technological resources as well. These practices assist in the the design, implementation, and evaluation of the response to services and programs. They use a consultative problem-solving framework. Data is systematically collected as a basis for decision-making. Ecological factors, such as the classroom, are also considered a context for assessment and intervention. Assessment data can be used for multiple purposes. It can help us to understand the problems of students and to determine and implement instructional and mental health services that are evidence-based. Assessment should always be valid and reliable. That way it will allow us to identify those students who require special educational services and to assess progress for academic or behavioral objectives. Assessment can also be used to determine and evaluate school-based interventions through determining responses to interventions, the process of intervention implementation, and the possible need for modification of interventions.
Through practice, school psychologists must also be able to consult and collaborate with other professionals as indicated by their consultative problem-solving process. They must be able to communicate effectively with diverse groups; suc...

(NASP 2010) School psychologists assist with preventive and responsive services as well. They address such issues as school failure or dropping out, bullying, youth suicide, school violence, and truancy. They participate in school crisis teams and conduct services in crisis prevention, preparation, response, and recovery. (NASP 2010) School Psychologists determine diverse cultural issues and advocate for parental support and involvement in education. It is the school psychologist 's responsibility to help teachers, parents, administrators, and other school faculty in understanding legislation and following regulations regarding special education and education in general.
