Retaining work relationships with peers and subordinates is considered to be an essential aspect of effective leadership. Leaders/managers should be able to recognize and understand their co-worker’s/supervisor’s strengths, weaknesses, personality types and preferred way of communication. This often results in productive collaboration of the organization leading to the accomplishment of the desired goals. Leaders should also be able to manage diversity at their workplace. Diversity generally strengthens the organization and a diverse workforce is a key to success. “A diverse workforce can deliver better decision making, better products and services, happier customers, increased productivity and a better bottom line” (Kampf, 2011, p. 44). However, on the other hand, lacking the knowledge of cultural differences in business can often impact the work relationships. Thus, it is imperative to understand the organizational and international cultural differences for establishing a successful organization globally. Considering Hofstede’s six dimensions of cross-cultural behavior, it is easy to understand the cultural similarities and differences existing between specific nations. On comparing India with U.S., it is evident that based on the cultural beliefs and values, U.S. scored higher in terms of individualism, masculinity, uncertainty avoidance and indulgence. Whereas India scored higher in terms of power distance and long term orientation. This ascertains that the cultural differences between India and U.S. are pronounced and significantly impact work relationships.

For establishing a successful organization and retaining work relationships globally, leaders should be able to collaborate with their co-workers and should also be able to manage diversity. Usually, diversity strengthens the organization, but lacking the knowledge of cultural differences can impact work relationships.
