Imagine yourself or a loved one in a vegetable state, lying in a hospital bed. Suffering endlessly, knowing they would hate going on like that. If the option to end the pain and agony was available, knowing they would take it, why not let them? Euthanasia is the answer to relieving these patients of their endless troubles. Giving them the option to end their lives instead of suffering daily does not take away from the sanctity of life. It is a person’s right to choose his or her fate, especially when they are making such a delicate choice. Euthanasia does end a great deal of suffering; therefore it does deserve a place in civilized society.
Euthanasia is the deliberate advancement of a person’s death for the benefit of that person. Generally the patients are terminally ill, in a vegetable state, or just already dying. The intent of euthanasia is to relieve the patients that are in these states from their suffering. The most typical form of euthanasia is lethal injection, which is where a doctor will administer a fatal dose of a pain killer or another drug of the patients request to the patient allowing death to overcome them. Ending medically necessary life support is also common (What is Mercy Kiiling?).
Dr. Jack Kevorkian, also known as Dr. Death, was a strong advocate for euthanasia or “assisted-suicide” in his lifetime ( He was a physician from Michigan who believed that a responsibility that doctors should have is to aid their patients in euthanasia. Taking matters into his own hands, he assisted over 130 people to their deaths from 1990 up until his incarceration in 1998. Nevertheless, Korvorkian remained a strong supporter of euthanasia (McLellan).
Opposing groups of legalizing euthanasia everywhere claim it is mu...

Essay My Personal Position On Euthanasia

- My personal position on euthanasia is that I am against it. If I were to commit suicide or euthanasia, it would betray my Christian beliefs. It is that simple to me. Uhlmann discusses the issue (13). Christians and Jews consider suicide a sin because God gave humans life, and only God can take that life. Humans have immortal souls that will travel to the afterlife after their mortal bodies die. Ending a human life, even it is their own, will corrupt the soul, and that soul will not have a pleasant afterlife....   [tags: Death, Suicide, Suffering, Meaning of life]

Essay on Assisted Suicide And The Birth Of Cancer

- “Earlier in the year, my great grandmother turned 101 years old. Many of my family members and I went to her hospital to congratulate her and give her wishes. When she blew out her birthday candles she had little to no expression on her face. But by now, we had gotten used to it. My mom told her to make a wish. The poor old woman said, ‘I wish that I could go to sleep and never wake up.’” This quote is from one of my co-workers. We had a lengthy conversation about the topic of assisted suicide and the birth of this research topic....   [tags: Euthanasia, Death, Medical ethics, Homicide]

Euthanasia = Murder Essay

- Did you ever think about what you would do once you were no longer able to take care of yourself. The pain and the suffering that you may go through, and without your consent a doctor decides to pull the plug on you. Although that may be what you want, that would be known as human euthanasia. Why would someone want to legalize such a thing. Don’t you value your life enough to hope to stay alive. If euthanasia were legal, how would people think of doctors who practiced this form of homicide. Doctors are supposed to be our healers and protectors of the sick and disabled....   [tags: Euthanasia Essays]

Essay about Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide are Murder

- Euthanasia is Murder Euthanasia - is it killing or letting die. In the last thirty years, this has been a highly controversial topic, the worldly morals versus the Christian. Although there are certain instances where it is justifiably considered to be letting die, it is essentially murder. Euthanasia Essay: Mercy Killing or Murder?

- Euthanasia: Mercy Killing or Murder.      We, as humans, are mortal beings.  Our life span is finite.  Even though we are mortal, we try to hang onto our lives as long as we can; fear of death and wanting to live forever are, after all, part of human nature.  Sometimes, however, the field of medicine capitalizes on this aspect of humanity. While it is certainly true that one goal of medicine has always been to prolong life, another goal has been the alleviation of pain and suffering.  One point at which these two views collide is over the hotly debated issue of euthanasia....   [tags: Euthanasia Physician Assisted Suicide]
