Some events which occurred in Europe from 1937 to 1939 caused an outbreak of war in 1939. The key events were Germany's involvement in the Spanish Civil war, the successful attempt by Germany of the anschluss of Austria, the Munich Conference that decided the fate of Czechoslovakia which was a result of appeasement policy, the Non – Aggression Pact between the Nazi and the Soviet Union, the invasion of Poland by Germany and the rise of fascism in Europe, particularly in Germany and Italy. This European conflict in 1939 spread into a world war (World War II) by the end of 1941. These European conflicts had spread into a world war by Germany invading France, Soviet Union breaking the Non – aggression pact, Denmark, Luxembourg, Yugoslavia and Greece. Germany also attempted to occupy Britain but failed miserably. The most significant event of all that made the war global was the bombing of Pearl Harbour in USA by the Japanese. This ended the isolationism in USA and that was the beginning of the global war. From July 1936 to 1939 was the time of Spanish Civil War. Germany and Italy sent troops and equipment to the Spanish army rebels, these were led by General Franco in an attempt to overthrow the elected republican government. General Franco asked Hitler (Nazi) and Mussolini (Fascist) to aid the nationalists. Hitler agreed and ordered three major military operations in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. The German Condor Air Legion used this as an experiment to test the Luftwaffe's capability by sending over 250 aircrafts, this caused the destruction of the city of Gurnica. At the height of the war, there were a total of about 20,000 Germans fighting in Spain. Though the attack was short (lasted around 2 hours), it left 2,403 dead, 188 destroyed planes and a crippled Pacific Fleet that included 8 damaged or destroyed battleships. This ended the isolationism of USA , Rome – Berlin – Tokyo Axis declared war on USA, USA had no choice but to join in with the war. The European conflict has now spread into a world war. Events in Europe from 1937 such as the Spanish Civil War, Germany's anschluss of Austria, Munich Conference, Non – Aggression Pact, Invasion of Poland led to the outbreak of war in 1939. This European conflict in 1939 spread into a world war by the end of 1941 was due to Germany invading France, Britain Soviet Union, Denmark, Luxembourg, Yugoslavia and Greece. The bombing of Pearl Harbour most definitely signified the start of a global war.
