Owning a home: the dream that every man dreams. The American dream is both a privilege and a burden. Typically, realizing a dream that you have had since maturity is pleasurable, however, for many Americans, the possibility of owning their own home is a temptation that burns too bright to resist.
I live in Williamson County, in Tennessee, which, at one point, was ranked in the top ten wealthiest counties in the entire United States. The fact is this: if you live in Williamson County, you most likely have some money. I have seen firsthand how people are tricked into “Keeping up with the Jones’”, and it is causing America as a whole to suffer financially. I think we can all agree that the majority of our current economic problems are based on faulty loans. Greed and irresponsibility are killing the market economy that we currently enjoy. My belief: that all things financial are linked and are directly related to the other sectors’ success and demise. My solution:
a. pass a law stating that people who default on their loans AND enter bankruptcy should be required to live in government subsidized housing until a reparation payment of ¼ of the loan can be made to the financial institution who dealt the loan, in addition to
b. an additional 5% withholding tax for the next five years after bankruptcy from every paycheck
c. this amount will be matched by the federal government
d. using this withholding penalty, once the financial institution’s FULL loan amount, or settlement amount has been satisfied,
e. the offenders will enter a five year probationary period, in which ALL housing decisions must be approved by a probationary officer. The accumulation of the 10% withholdings (5% from the offender, 5% from the governme...

...not to make a profit by taking advantage of people. The government is there to help the country run; the people are not here to make the government run. Therefore, that I believe federal and state income taxes should be waived during the probationary time. Like I said, we want to help people recover, not break them down with more penalties.
More than all of this, I believe that the economical situation would SIGNIFICANTLY improve if this program was implemented. Because money is related, if the housing sector does better, the financial sector improves. If the financial sector improves, the small business sector improves; the list goes on and on. This idea is not only a bankruptcy recovery, but an economical recovery plan that would improve our economy in a very reasonable amount of time, WITHOUT pumping billions of dollars into a stimulus package.
Keli Goff declares in her article, The American Dream is Dead and Good Riddance, that the original American Dream is no longer on the minds of most Americans. She insists that most Americans no longer pursue the ideology of a nice house, educated children, and decent car that once fueled the ambitions of generations that have come and gone. A large number of people live alone in the U.S today with no children. With that being said, it’s statistically spoken that the dream is dying even though most of those loners want to direct their dream in the direction of a partner and children. Goff proceeds to ridicule the home ownership portion of the dream by pointing to a mortgage “meltdown” that came from the pursuit of home ownership by those who
Another $102 billion would be used to help victims of the recession with unemployment insurance, health care, food stamps and job training, while jobless aid would also be increased by an extra $25 a week. As we can see, the evidence is clear and growing by the day, the Recovery Act is working to soften the greatest economic downfall since the Great Depression and is laying down a new foundation for economic growth.... ... middle of paper ... ...
I. You might have heard politicians in the news, talk about overhauling our tax system with a new fix-all idea, the flat-tax. This would simplify our overly complicated tax system and might seem appealing at first glance, however there are serious problems with it.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was signed into law by President Obama on February 21, 2009. The law had three major goals which were all aimed at stimulating a sluggish US economy. The first goal was to create new jobs and save existing ones by tax credits for hiring new employees. The second goal was to spur economic activity and investment in long term growth by increasing the amount of business asset that could be acquired by companies while allowing for immediate deductions for the cost of the assets as well as numerous tax credits for individuals and businesses. The third goal was to foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending by requiring recipients of recovery act funds to post acknowledgements on the Recovery.gov website.

The first issue to be tackled for an offender is a drug referral if needed since other interventions and programs will not have much effect if the offender will not retain them due to drug use. These treatment facilities communicate with the probation officers. They keep them informed on the offender’s progress and/or issues the offender has. The lower risk offenders are eligible for treatment programs. (Loftus, lecture)
When you buy a home it brings the sense of accomplishment and pride. It is also a chance to express your style and personal taste. You can enjoy freedom with home ownership.Buying a home also lets you have insight as a part of a permanent community. On the other hand, in a rented apartment or home, one might feel temporary and less
Because of the high prices of homes in the United States, people often focus on only the buying price when considering the costs of owning a house, and neglect many other aspects of home ownership. A house is not your regular item that you buy and store or use for a limited amount of time. Houses come in a package with upkeep costs and taxes, and it’s wise to take these into account when analyzing your finances.
Buying a home can be an exciting experience for anyone. However, in some cases you just might be better off continuing to rent your home. There are many advantages to buying a home. However, it is not for everyone and buying varies from individual to individual. Currently more people are leaning towards renting but this could change in the near future.
This model of corrections main purpose was to reintroducing the offenders in to the community. This Program was invented to help offenders in the transition from jail to the community, aid in the processes of finding jobs and stay connected to their families and the community. The needs of these individuals are difficult: the frequency of substance abuse, mental illness, unemployment, and homelessness is elevated among the jail population.
Having a house and having a home used to coincide. Families used to live in the same house for generations, but now the sentimental value of having a house has changed. As Quindlen puts it, “There was a time when where you lived often was where you worked and where you grew the food you ate and even where you were buried. When that era passed, where you lived at least was where your parents had lived and where you would live with your children when you became enfeebled” (Quindlen 215). However, over time even that changed. Now we have grown to live in a house and then move on like it was nothing. Sentimental value for a house has dwindled. Quindlen demonstrates that “suddenly, where you lived was where you lived for three years, until you could move on to something else and something else again” (Quindlen 215). However, for those without a house, they would give anything to have that sentimental feeling that used to come with having a house. But that’s just the problem; for most a house and a home no longer coincide. We can own a house but not have a home, or vice versa. After all, “Home is where the heart is. There’s no place like it” (Quindlen 214). People can have a home without having a house. A home simply means having a family,
A home for me is not a house. A house is just a building that you fill
Before being put on probation an offender is interviewed for a presentence investigation which entails any previous criminal history, family history, employment history, any history of addiction,
“One out of every two hundred homes will be foreclosed every month, making it 205,000 new families entering into foreclosure,” Mortgage Bankers Association. The housing industry in the United States is undergoing an unfortunate crisis. There are way too many homes being foreclosed, which causes a ripple of problems. President Obama has been brave enough to take office at a time of need. Creating plans like the Recovery Act is a wonderful start in fixing this problem.
Buying and owning your home is part of the American dream. Although the dream itself has since changed, the home still remains the main focal point. Today owning a home doesn’t necessarily mean a house. People now buy duplexes, cooperative apartments, and condominiums. For some families it could take up to a couple of generations before it’s able to have the capabilities of buying a home. To many people it means a certain achievement that only comes after years of hard work. It is a life altering decision and one of the most important someone can make in their lifetime. The reasons behind the actual purchase could vary. Before anything is done, people must understand that it’s an extraneous process and it is a long term project.
