Imagine traveling to a different country to test their local cuisine only to find a McDonalds or Starbucks around every corner. In short, this is globalization. Globalization is the spread of ideas throughout the world using the development of technology and other resources. Now, imagine eating rice at a Chinese restaurant with a fork and getting ridiculed by the workers for not using chop sticks. This is an example of ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the evaluation of other cultures according to preconceptions originating in the standards and customs of one 's own culture. Our generation, and future generations, should be more worried about ethnocentric beliefs and behaviors rather than globalization. Ethnocentrism is believing America is the best. It is believing that every other culture’s beliefs and statements are wrong because they do not agree with American beliefs and statements. Ethnocentrism is allowing your children to believe that they deserve the best and allowing them to think that they live in a superior country. Ethnocentrism is having a business but only allowing certain races to have access to said business.
