Ethics versus morals, ethics are rules that are provided by an external source, for example the law. Morals refer to a specific individual’s inner rules and principles regarding what’s right and what’s wrong. They are in fact more suitable, appropriate, and useful than ethics. I believe that there was a great representation of this in movie “Flight”, starring Denzel Washington. The movie shows the importance of morals, while at the same time weakening the stance on ethical thinking. I chose morals over ethics because ethics aren’t always right, ethics are too vague, and a person should always put themselves first.
Before elaborating, there is a need of getting a better understanding of morals; “morals” is the Latin word "mos" meaning "custom" (Jasuja & Sehgal, 2016)
“Principles or habits with respect to right or wrong conduct. While morals also prescribe dos and don 'ts, morality is ultimately a personal compass of right and wrong. A Moral Person although perhaps bound by a higher covenant, may choose to follow a code of ethics as it would apply to a system. "Make it fit".” (Jasuja & Sehgal, 2016)
And for ethics
“Ethics (the word takes a plural form but is treated as singular) is also a field of philosophical study. There aren’t many college courses on morals (though ethics courses inevitably involve discussions of morals), whereas classes in ethics are required for many degrees, especially in law, business, and medicine.”
s seen in these quotes ethics and morals go hand and hand. Even though ethics has a very close meaning with morals; ethics aren’t always right. This is because ethics are like rules, and rules don’t bend or fold, they are either done are broken that’s it. And since ethics are so straightforward, they don’t co...

...because he had enough. At the same time he could’ve lied and ‘ethically’ he would’ve done the right thing, but looking at the big picture he wouldn’t be doing himself any favors. Therefore, his moral compass kicked in and he was metaphorically set free.
In conclusion, the film “Flight” was a great representation of the ethics versus morals question. The movie shows the importance of morals and the importance of ethics, but at the same time ethical stand point was weakened. Morals over ethics because ethics aren’t always right even if they are majority of the time; because ethics are too vague and don’t give enough wiggle room for all variables, and people should not be followers and always go with their gut for any situation. Finally, moral cognition is better than an ethical way of thinking based on the movie “Flight”, so that’s how all should make their decisions.
