Analysis of an Ethical Dilemma There are always many ethical issues on hands for any business organization. The list id so long and complicated that one can never solve it in a way that everyone can be happy. Because of that, most of the ethical issues in the business world are solved in a manners that both affected parties can have win-win situation. In this paper, we will be discussing a case in which we will focus on how conducting a personal business at work while using corporate asses for personal use affects the moral behavior in any organization. It also show, how influence can affect one’s judgment. In this case, there are many negative consequences which are brought up by one employee’s behavior. First, looking at the long term consequences, the other employees will follow the example of this girl. They will also try to away with other rules and regulation, too. Also the standard for the company’s ethical behavior will get low. It will also affect the organizational culture. Breaking the rules and the regulations might not be the problem for just one team or one section but also for the whole company. Since this company works with two different organizations, it will affect the relationship between them, too. If the standard of moral decrease, the company will have to face some serious reputation. First, getting job through connection, then getting away with braking rules with, and making sure that the team leader will not bother again about that is an impressive in its own. The courage one need to pull something like that in their first job is very impressive from any normal person’s perspective. However, is it the right thing to do? Is it right thing to even let that happen? That is the main issue here. If one is taking the job and title, they should accepts the responsibilities that come with it. In conclusion, I think that the company is at the big fault here. The company let the things go very easily when the regulations were broken. Even if one gets the job through personal connection, it should have kept hidden since it can bring the moral down for other people who work hard to get the job. In addition, using the personal connection to get way with breaking rules is unethical thing to do as a human being, and that should be understandable by even a regular citizen. In the story, Bowen was a participant in a sabbatical program for Morgan Stanley, where he spent sixty days climbing the icy and dangerous Himalayas in Nepal. He set out for this journey with his friend Stephen, who was an Anthropologist, their porters and some Sherpas. During their hike, Bowen & Stephen encountered a New Zealander who had with him a barefoot, barely clothed, Indian man who happened to be a Sadhu, who at the moment was exhausted and hypothermic. The New Zealander was on a mission to complete his goal, and carrying the Sadhu with him made it almost impossible to trek any further. Stephen and Bowen tried their best to help the Sadhu by helping him stay warm. Surely enough, the Sadhu recovered, but he was still unable to walk. Soon Bowen also realized that the Sadhu was getting in the way of his trip to the summit. So, Bowen decided to leave the Sadhu with Stephen. Following Bowen’s departure, some men from Switzerland and Japan also helped the Sadhu during their trip. It is important to note that all the different cultures of climbers: the Sherpas, the Swiss, the New Zealanders, and the Japanese were able to provide the Sadhu with some sort of assistance that was vital to his survival. However, in the end, the Sadhu was left behind with some clothes, food and drinks to trek two days to the nearest village. Ultimately, all the climbing parties were determined enough to accomplish their goal to reach the summit. Unfortunately, no one knew whether the Sadhu was still alive or not. When working within any professional body, an individual will be subjected to circumstances in which personal ethics will come into play. The Accounting profession is no different as ethical questions arise as part of any working day and can effect how an individual or the company conducts business. These questions can vary greatly in practice from selection of new customers to the rates at which those clients are going to be charged. These ethical questions are raised regularly within the workplace and each employee will react to them differently. The varying reactions will depend on the morality of each individual, or each employees own ‘ethics’. As each employee has their own set of values companies must be alert to the fact that some of their employees may have more ‘flexible’ morals than others. This ‘flexible’ morality can lead to corruption and manipulation within the workplace and can give companies serious problems. As a result of this, all of the main professional accounting bodies have begun to re-introduce mandatory courses teaching ethics to their employees. Ultimately, the entire business can be brought down by one poor ethical choice. Good employees see others not following ethical guidelines and it causes them to lose faith in their coworkers. Bad employees see the same thing, then believe they can get away with it. Both scenarios can cause horrible things to happen very quickly.
