Ethics in business surround the dynamics of running business without negative effect on the immediate environment (internal and external). The management should always observe limits when dealing with their working environment and steer clear of any obstacles in the situations arising with time. Any handling of the dynamics of business will rely heavily on the ability of management to identify issues before maturity, and making attempts to eliminate threat to the business using acceptable means. The flower shop case presents a case of misplacement of priorities, management issues, grievance presentation, emergency situation handling and the complexity of ethics in standard business. The management body (in this case a singular person) is heavily dependent on the proprietor of the business for direction in terms of decision making (Armstrong, 2010). The manager is expected to manage the employee finances, with the payments being limited to the set salary and allowances, in which all employees agreed to before taking up their work. This case is a classic scenario of re-delegation of responsibilities, since the manager has to take over the decision making and handling of finances due to the unavailability of the proprietor.
There are various issues raised in this case, with most of the participants in the situation lacking in one way. The case presents issues with the management, employee (and their motivation) and the proprietor. The faults presented by the manager include the inability to control the workers, where he cannot limit their complaints on the increments of their salaries- to await the return of the proprietor, and thus fails in the duty of managing disputes at the workplace. Although the business has benefitted from the quick and intelligent handling of the case, there are consequences of the actions taken (increasing the pay of workers without consulting the proprietor). The manager has to take responsibility for all the occurrences, since he is solely responsible for handling the employees and their grievances. It is thus important to note the importance of all skills applied in managing the situation. This is only understood better when one places themselves in the position of the decision maker.
