Addressing the importance of ethics and ethical competence related to leadership is fundamental to the development of a diverse and vital organizational culture. The purpose of this paper is to discuss central concepts in ethical leadership and ethical competence in a diverse workplace and within organizational cultures.
First, I’ll define ethical leadership and ethical competence. Second, I will discuss the roles of ethical leadership and ethical competence in the workplace. Third, I’ll address the significance and relevance of ethical leadership in leading diverse organizational cultures. Fourth, I’ll focus on how organizational culture is shaped by ethical leadership. Fifth, I’ll share personal strategies for employing and sustaining ethical leadership. Competencies, as learning and development principles, incorporate many themes and have been part of the management landscape for years. “An emotional intelligence competency comprises the abilities to identify, understand and utilize emotional information about the self that causes or results in superior performance” (Boyatzis, 2009, p. 757). Although competencies are commonly mentioned in regard to establishing benchmarks for performance improvement and assessment, integrating ethical competencies only enhance the performance goals defined.
