Ethical Dilemma

An ethical dilemma is a complicated situation that involves an evident conflict between moral rules, in which to obey one would result in disobeying another. Sometimes called ethical paradoxes in moral philosophy, ethical dilemmas are often invoked in an attempt to contradict an ethical system or moral code, or to improve it so as to resolve the paradox.
For instance, you are the network superintendent for a company. You need your job to support your family. As part of your responsibility as a network administrator is to monitor the emails for the organization. this just means occasionally allow through emails for staff members that have been accidentally blocked by the spam filters. Your initial reaction is to call your friend up and tell him about the email, however you quickly realize that company policy is very strict about revealing any confidential emails of staff members regardless of the contents and unless someone’s life is in immediate danger, under no conditions are you permitted to reveal the information. However, you feel that by not telling you friend that you are aiding his wife get away with disloyalty and this worries you deeply. The example that I provided is a classes case of ethical dilemma. In such situations many people will have their own way of dealing with such problems. Although if I was to make a moral decision based on the situation, I would probably do what I think is ethical at that moment. To make an ethical or moral decision I would not take the end result in consideration. I would just go straight to what is ethical in that particular situation. I would consider what would be the result of conflict be. The ought fallacy is established around that fact that if things are meant to be the way they are, then no should be taking further steps to alter the facts. However, the ought fallacy also occurs opposite that if something is not occurring then it should never occur. In respect to above example, if I was made to my decision based on non-moral values, then I would choose not to tell my friends about his wife’s affair and nor I would want my friend’s wife to know that fact that I was aware of her relationship between another person.
