The idea of industrial waste is a simple matter since waste is a natural creation of industrial production. As these industries create more products, waste is bound to accumulate, and they must find a way to dispose of it. In the past, companies were not put under environmental regulations by the government, and they would dispose to waste in on and off-site locations. Obviously, these companies would want to dispose of their waste in the cheapest way possible so that they could maximize their profits. This lead to an unsafe disposal of waste products, and “long-term health and environmental consequences gave way to short-term economic advantage.” After a while, the public demanded government intervention, and the issue of waste management was brought to the government’s attention as “America’s number-one environmental problem.” (2)
