A college town is a place for great economic opportunities. It does not matter the size of the town, it is a place where many young and energized people live. College and universities in general “create substantial economic impacts. Even in tough economic times universities could translate into jobs, higher incomes and greater production of goods and services for local households and businesses” (Humphreys 105). However, sometimes there are college towns, which do not take advantage of these invaluable human resources and do not offer them opportunities. Unfortunately, the city of Ada, Okla. is one of those college towns that do not exploit the force it has in the students attending to East Central University.
The city of Ada has a population of approximately 18,000 people in 15.2 sq. miles, making it the 30th biggest city in the State of Oklahoma. The economy in Ada is mainly concentrated in manufacturing industries, which have two main impacts.
First of all, these types of industries generate jobs college student are not neither prepare to or interested in. Generally, students attending to college look for employment opportunities that allow them to have a good performance in the school while earning decent amounts of money. Also, besides the economic revenue, college students are always willing to build a solid resume that allows them to have a well remunerate job in the future.
On the other hand, manufacturing industries do not contribute to make the life in the city striking for college students. Basically, Ada’s economy do not provides enough entertainment options for the student population, which causes these mass of young people go to other towns and cities and expend their money in those places instead of doing it ...

...od ECU community could respond to this innovation. Towns with a population a little bit bigger than Ada’s such as Elkhart city, Ind. (refer to Appendix 1.3), La Crosse city, Wis. and Portland city, Maine were part of the success.
All of the propositions explained above will help the City of Ada to develop its economy and to offer to its community a better quality of life. The city of Ada is a place of opportunities, where if it is well exploited, the results could be incredible. Since the ECU student community is a big part of this town, they should be taken into consideration and the city should provide them with more facilities and a friendlier environment. Cities like Ada are the home away from home of thousands of young men and women who besides study time also need entertainment and leisure places to balance the load caused by the stress in college.
