Extended Essay Topic Outline Thesis: The Byzantine Empire was a continuation of the Roman Empire that lasted for about a millennium and The Sassanid Empire was a Persian Empire that existed during the lifespan of the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine Empire was located for the most of time in the Anatolia Region and the Sassanid’s were located in present day Iran, or part of the Arabian Peninsula. With the close proximity to each other both of these empires were often in contact and can be relatable to each other as individual empires. A) The Byzantine Empire Versus The Sassanid Persian Empire B) Introductory Paragraph I) The Byzantine Empire was a continuation of the Roman Empire that lasted for about a millennium and The Sassanid Empire was a Persian Empire that existed during the lifespan of the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantine Empire was located for the most of time in the Anatolia Region and the Sassanid’s were located in present day Iran, or part of the Arabian Peninsula. II) During the post-classical era in Eurasia the Byzantine’s and the Sassanid’s were two empires that shared similarities and differences in their political institutions, social structures, dependence on trade and their economy, and in their declination during the seventh century Common Era. The Byzantines were a post-classical representation of the Romans while the Sassanid’s were a continued empire from late Persian Dynasties, and both of these continuation empires were comparable in political structure, social structure, and their declination. Lastly the war between each other would lead to the demise of the Byzantines and the Sassanid’s, however the Sassanid’s fell first and both fell at the hand of Islam in the end. II) Some implications include the basic structure of the social structure within these two empires and how they were compared to a normal post-classical empire. To further verify this it is necessary to research common empires in this time period. III) The Byzantines seemed to be the successful empire out of the two, however it seems that even the Byzantine Empire wasn’t a great empire since it was reduced to a very small region after the early eight century. Yet these empires are relatable because they’re legacies have always rivaled each other since the Macedonian Empire and Alexander the Great.
