It was nights like these Critias hated the most.
He laid awake in his bed, unable to even as much as close his eyes for more than a few minutes. His mind was churning with unwelcome thoughts, and all he wanted to do was let his eyelids drop and fall asleep.
As per usual, the thoughts that kept him awake weren't pleasant. Tonight, his mind was focused on how alone he actually was. It was one of his least favourite subjects, but for some reason, he kept coming back to it.
He'd gone to sleep around nine. It was almost midnight now. And still, he lay awake, staring at the ceiling. He had to accept the fact that he wasn't going to be sleeping any time soon, so he climbed out of bed, changed out of his pajamas, grabbed his phone; wallet; and coat, then headed out the door. He didn't bother leaving a note for his mother. He doubted she would get up in the time he was out.
All the public transportation was a little sketchy at this hour - at least the ones that were still running - so he decided to walk. There was no question as to where the roads were taking him, and before long he was at the boardwalk. Critias always found it a bit eerie at this hour. More so with the current full moon. The shops were all closed, and the area around it abandoned. Somehow, it was still comforting that way.
The blond headed straight for the stairs that lead down to the sand, his pace slowly obviously once he reached that point. There was no rush now; this was where he wanted to be.
He shoved his hands in his jacket pockets to protect them from the cold ocean breeze, though the light wind still nipped at his nose and cheeks. Oddly enough, as much as he didn't like the cold, he didn't mind so much when it was coming from the ocean.

"N'kay..." He yawned, rubbing his eyes as heard the door to his mother's room close. A little sigh passed his lips, and he shuffled over to the light, turning it off before flopping into bed, pulling his blanket over him. He didn't bother changing back into his pajamas, too tired for that. Now that he knew he was going to get to sleep, he didn't much care about trying to stay up.
After a moment though, he realized his phone was still in his pocket, and he pulled it out, setting an alarm for later and tossing it to the other side of the bed, letting his eyes close. Luckily, he drifted off to sleep quickly, his mind having nothing more to ponder, and his quiet snores soon followed.
