One nice day in the summer my friends, Yvette, Katie, and Kristi, and I were heading up to the Lil Jon & The Eastside Boys concert. Everything was going fine. We made it up there with no problem, found the Excel Center. When we were parked we decided that we wanted to park closer, so I backed out and all of a sudden we heard a bang and my car wouldn’t start. We started freaking out, because we stuck up against this car I hit. We then asked some guys to help push it into a parking spot, when it was in neutral. Fifteen minutes later the guy came and saw his car and I went over and admitted to him what happened. So he called the cops and they came over and figured everything out. That night my parents found out what had happened and had to pay for it. After that accident happened I wasn’t able to buy a sound system for my car, I had to work more, and I couldn’t see my friends as much. These are big changes in my life that I didn’t think would happen at that time.
I was not able to buy a sound system for my car, because I had to pay my parents back. I had over a thousand dollars in my account saved for a system and with it I was planning on buying an amp, subwoofers, and maybe speakers and a deck. Even though my car came with a subwoofer, Infinity speakers, and a cad player, I still wanted something bigger and better. I was sad that I had to give my money to my parents to help pay for the damage, because I didn’t expect to save up that much money to pay for an accident. I am now going to have to wait to save that money up again and buy them later.
Now that I had to pay back my parents and still pay for my car I had to start working more. I already had an extremely busy schedule with dance, Youth in Government, and I was just going to start gymnastics. Having dance three days a week, meetings for Youth in Government every once in a while, and gymnastics made four days I couldn’t work in a week. Then having to put enough work in my rigorous schedule to pay back my parents would leave just enough time to do my homework.
... I then thought to myself is a stereo worth 55 hours of my time, and do I really have $500 for an unnecessary expense such as a new stereo? In the end I decided against the purchase, and by doing things of this sort when making a purchase can make affluenza a memory rather than a reality. This is just one method that I use, but there are many other methods, simple methods such as going hiking instead of going to a shopping mall.
We discuss work related issues and its impact on college success almost every day whether we notice or not this is a big issue. Some college students have to have jobs in order to eat to take care of themselves on a daily basis. It is not good to be in college and be absolutely broke, they say “you’re in college it’s alright if you don’t have money, I didn’t have any either” this statement is a complete NO! Money in today’s time is a necessity without it how can one prosper? Family issues tie into work related issues as well; we’ll tie the two in. Being a parent and going to class full time is already a hard task to take on, add a job on top of that. A parent is running late to class due to an accident at their child’s school this is a family issue that at the time is more important than class.
It was the day of April 13, 2000. I woke up at exactly 12 o’clock because my boyfriend was to pick me up at 1 like we planned the night before. The day looked quite nice, but I was in a fowl mood. I got into a car accident the night before and had a huge argument with my parents about the car. I finally dragged myself into the shower and got ready in half an hour. Then I went downstairs, sat on my couch, and repeatedly told myself the day would hopefully turn out better than last night. At around 1:15, my boyfriend came to pick me up. We took the 5 freeway to the 57 since it was the only way I knew how to get there. As we approached the 134 freeway, my girlfriend veered to the right, taking the 210 which was wrong way and got us lost. So, we exited the freeway and got back on the right track. Then finally, before long, we reached Norton Simon.
About 3 months ago I was sitting in my car thinking why am I here and how did I get here. I was all the way in Lake Charles, LA, about 6 hours from home. Earlier that day I had gotten so upset with everyone I got in the car and just started driving. I'm not one to let my emotions get to me or others but this had built up to the point where I was feeling tears rolling down my face uncontrollably and plunging down to my phone in my lap, I was having a breakdown. I pulled off the highway to get gas at this old dingy gas station where I saw two sheriffs searching this women's car. I dried my tears got out and tried to pay for my gas but the pump wasn’t reading my card and it started to irritate me. One of the sheriffs standing by the car noticed
When I finally found my words I asked what was going on and my mother told me that my sister was in a car accident. When we arrived at the scene all I could see was my sister’s car sideways in the middle of the road with the entire front of it smashed up towards the windshield. As I looked around I saw my sister, emerging from a tan SUV I had never seen before, running towards my parents. The ambulances began to arrive and I was in my sister’s arms when I realized that there was no other damaged car at the
...he time with classes, I did made time for things that are non-academic and media related.
I always seemed to not learn from the first mistake when it came to driving, after my first car accident you would think I’d learn to obey driving laws. I had just got off work at 5pm and my co worker was outside smoking a cigarette and yelled out “go ahead and show me that you can really burnout”, as I got in my car, and of course I wouldn’t say no. I put my car in gear and took off and burned rubber in the empty parking lot, as I’m sliding out the parking lot I hear a loud pop, it’s my front passenger tire that popped and the next thing I knew I had no control of the car and ahead of me is a curb that leads into a shopping center but is about 10 feet down. At this point my car is in the air and the car lands nose first flipping the car upside down. I crawl out the car and realize I just totaled my mother’s car.
When I was at school I broke my wrist. My friends and I were playing on the slide and I fell off into the dirt and landed on my wrist. When I heard “crack”, I knew something was wrong and needed to go tell the teacher. Holding my wrist I ran to Mrs.Kathy and told her that something was wrong with my wrist. We ran to the nurse because she thought it was severely damaged based on the way it was dangling. An ice pack was put on my wrist to control the swelling. My dad was given a phone phone call and was told that I had hurt my self on the playground. Rushing from work my dad was to coming get me and on the way he picked up my brother from high school, they later arrived at the elementary school. We hastily went to the emergency room because my wrist was getting sizeably larger. By the time we achieved our destination, my mom was waiting patiently for us.
Eleven years old and I had my first ride with a cop and it was the worst car ride of my life. I couldn’t breathe and the palm of my hands started to sweat. I couldn’t stop glaring at the back of the cops head and hating him for what he just did. That was the first time I had ever wished death on another human being. I constantly kept looking over and checking on Alyssa and making sure that she was ok. She was shaking and crying she was so scared and I kept wishing that I was strong enough so that I could comfort her but I couldn’t. I couldn’t find the words to say to her so and it killed me. Eventually we ended up at a building I had never seen before and the cop got out and opened my door then asked us to get out and prompted
The pick-up bounced jarringly down the old dirt road. The driver sat up straight in the front seat, checking over her shoulder every few seconds to make sure that her cargo hadn't fallen out.
The reality is, it doesn 't matter the events of that day or the reason for their occurrence. It doesn 't matter the anger, terror, or despair I felt following the accident. Although my heart is in a constant battle with my earthly desires and feelings on the subject, the truth is, none of those things
February twenty-third 2010 was just a regular ordinary day. I was on my way to class on this cold February afternoon, when my phone rung. It was my cousin on the other end telling me to call my mom. I could not figure out what was wrong, so I quickly said okay and I hung up and called my mom. When my mom answered the phone I told her the message but I said I do not know what is wrong. My mom was at work and could not call right away, so I took the effort to call my cousin back to see what was going on. She told me that our uncle was in the hospital and that it did not look good. Starting to tear up I pull over in a fast food restaurant parking lot to listen to more to what my cousin had to say. She then tells me to tell my mom to get to the hospital as quickly as possible as if it may be the last time to see her older brother. My mom finally calls me back and when I tell her the news, she quickly leaves work. That after-noon I lost my Uncle.
There were many days I needed to stay after school for a test retake or just for some help. I thought that because I had a job now, I couldn’t put my school first. I made this mistake many times. I took a Chemistry unit test and did not do so well on the test, the teacher had retakes the following days after school. Of course I had to work all those days.
Accidents is defined as an unplanned and undesired circumstances resulting in injuries, fatalities and loss or damage of property or assets(safety.ILO, 2011). Accidents are much deeper and beyond the older clichés, accounting to bad luck or fate, almighty’s work or simply being at wrong place at wrong time. But, in todays scientific world it is neither perceived as fate nor as deity’s work but a social problem resulting from a chain of undesired events. Preventing accidents is very arduous task without knowledge of accident phenomenon and the study in the field of accident phenomenon has been very diverse but a basic question has always been raised as why does accident occur? Can there be some common pattern to it? To unravel these mysteries and predict and prevent accidents several theories and model has been postulated in the past and recent times with each having some explanatory and predictive values.
I never really talk about the affects my father’s motorcycle accident had on me because it hurts to know I went through something like that at such a young age. Where I am now is where I want to stay because it is nothing but progress from where I was then. I may have grown from my father’s motorcycle accident, but also developed a lot of good and bad memories that I would not trade for the world.
