“Mobile phone is seen as one of the greatest innovations both in developed and developing countries. Advancements in mobile phones enable its users not just to communicate but also to use different applications such as camera, internet, music player, games, social media etc.” (I§IKLAR 2013) Students in high school have not fully matured. They don’t understand responsibility and are easily influenced. Giving them this level of technology during class and school can bring about many problems. High school students should not be allowed to have and carry cellphones to school because they can cause distractions, promote cheating and students cause unnecessary issues. “Nowadays, a marked addiction is also observed in technological devices although they offer crucial benefits for users; therefore, a new term has emerged in the literature about using mobile phones excessively which is called technological addiction.” (Yenet al., 2009). Having a cellphone in class can cause a student to be distracted. Students can use their cellphone to access social media; such as Facebook, Myspace and other media sites and apps. Students can also text and use apps such as WhatsApp to instant message each other. If cellphones are allowed in class, it would be hard for a teacher to point out the students who are using this technology for educational reasons, versus the students who are misusing their privileges. A cell phone can also be a distraction if it rings off during class. Though a cellphone ringing off in class may seem to be a minor disruption, it can throw off the behavior of the entire class. There are also many forms of distractions that students can be exposed to. They can play games, surf the web, insta... ... middle of paper ... ...ven lead to attempted murder or suicide.”(Cyberbullying 2014) This will cause many disruptions in the functioning of everyday school life. The level of cyber bullying would skyrocket if cellphones are allowed in school. It is in the best interest of the faculty and the staff to refrain from allowing cellphones into schools to lower the rate of cyberbullying. Though there are some benefits of bringing cellphones to school, the cons outweigh the pros vastly. If we are to keep our schools well conducted and orderly, cell phones should not be allowed. Many issues can be avoided if we simply ban them from schools. In this technological era, students are very tech savvy. Many teachers can be outsmarted by students because of their advance technological knowledge. To avoid many issues and problems, it is important that cellphones be banned from school all together.
