BSE major is Biology, Society, and Environmental, it gives us a comprehensive training in biology combined with an in depth examinations of relevance of biology to social and environmental problems. Most of the students who graduate as a BSE major complete coursework of biological science and the humanities. BSE major was created when College of Liberal Art used to offer BA biology, but the program was sopped. The main reason why BSE was created was as interdisciplinary degree programs that will incorporate the same science core present in other major that also had other social science courses and other humanities course which will help the student to put their science learning into context. Looking the number of the student enrolling BSE program has increased since the last 3 years and the reason being its program with a variety of subjects. Like you can get courses which are to correspond to the health science, and environmental science and also many humanities courses. Regardless of the area that is interested, BSE major will provide you a strong grounding in the sciences. For instance it’s preparing you to go graduate school either medical school or whatever kind of grad school. The most important thing I like about BSE major it give me the flexibility to customize the rest of the major I am going to.
As college students, who experiences the challenges of classes and extracurricular activities, and most undergo a developmental progression in which I gradually let go of my belief in the certainty of knowledge and omniscience of authorities and take increasing responsibility for my own learning. At a higher developmental level I recognize that all knowledge is contextual, gather and interpret evidence to confirm m...

The past three years of my life have given me greater vision of my future. I see university of Minnesota as a holding he largest book with many unread chapters and myself as an eager child who has just found out how to say. I intend to be more focused getting a graduate school from the University of Minnesota. As a student with diverse likes and dislikes and many involving many bodily processes, both academic and non-academic, to participate in. With the help of the university of Minnesota, I will be successful after college and be able to build a name and a place myself in our society of today and tomorrow.
From infancy to adulthood, organisms are always learning. The conscious and the subconscious are taking in information and sorting it, discarding irrelevant information and storing the relevant. The most common mode of gaining knowledge is through repetitions and memorization. These methods are effective for knowing exact definitions but do not develop understanding. In O Americano Outra Vez, Richard Feynman describes his teaching experiences while at the Brazilian Center for Physical Research. There he discovers the flaw in the modern education system, students are memorizing material but are unable to apply it to a real life scenarios, demonstrating they are gaining knowledge but not understanding it. Similar to Feynman’s Brazilian class,
Every year there are thousands of students planning and tracking their goals. Seniors in high school are faced with the tough challenge, while the Juniors are left to worry another year. Finally, the point comes a student’s life where they must make one of the most important decisions in their educational lifetime. That choice is, which college to attend, and it is a very scrutinous process. Two of such colleges are the University of Iowa and St. Ambrose University, and although similarities like majors and minors are evident, there are many other differences including student life.
So after graduation I decided to explore my options at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh. Wow, was this a mistake? Not only was the college to big for my own well being, but the big university provided too many distractions. This is why I feel I have finally taken the right and first step. in securing my future.
In Jane Tompkins, A Life in School: What the Teacher Learned, Jane uncovers flaws in the American education system and how poorly formal education prepares pupils for careers after schooling. She describes how her teachers at P.S. 98 used authority to form the person she is now, teaching at Duke. Her experience dabbling in alternative teaching methods established the path she took throughout her career. Although Tompkins experience is atypical of most students, I agree with her argument about how fear is a successful means of motivation for those that can succumb to it, but alternatives exist that have been demonstrated and are successful.
To students, words spoken from professors are to be taken down as fact almost without question. The words spoken may not even be facts, but a professor’s opinion but there is no difference when students are taking notes and a test is closing in. The speed at which this must be accomplished leaves no time for the students to even question the credibility of their professor’s statements let alone form their own. To do so would be treading upon the fields of epistemology which can be described as understanding how we come to realize that something is true like “the Earth is round”, or a value that should be upheld like “it is unethical to harm a random bystander”. (Ellerton, 2017) Fortunately, the processes
As children, we are forced to learn the curriculum our teachers create in order to educate our minds and fill us with knowledge we can use for the future. Through time, we combine all of this knowledge and take different tests that will decide whether or not we can go to college and be _____ into higher education. However, when it comes to truly understanding the subject, students tend may not think critically enough of what they are learning. When I was young, I remember when I was taught _________. As I look back, I always had questions about the subject, but whenever I asked them, they never had an answer that satisfied me. I could never connect with the subject and fully understand the importance of it. This kind of gap between knowledge
In a social constructivist view on learning the brain is a complex, flexible, ever changing organism that reshapes itself in response to challenge (Abbott & Ryan, 2001). Constructivism view is that knowledge is obtained and understood through a student’s mental framework (Abbott & Ryan, 2001). Learning is not a passive process but it is a deliberate and progressive process that deepens meaning (Abbott & Ryan, 2001). The student does not only reply on a teachers lectures but also on their interactions with the environment around them (Abbott & Ryan, 2001). In this view it is important that the teacher sees the student as the centre of teaching endeavours, by assisting them to obtain information they can integrate into their already known knowledge. There are many ways that a teacher can assist their students, one example is Scaffolding. Scaffolding is where a teacher provides students with just enough help in order to complete the tasks themselves, then over time decreasing the amount of help so that a student can master this themselves.
Schools are so much a part of our society, so the accurate length of school days is extremely important. Public opinions on the length of the school days are different. There are a lot of parents and professors concerned that it is hard for children to go to school early in the morning and stay there the whole day. On the other side, some professors try to force students into a nine hour school day. Not so many years ago, school was a main part of my life, and the school days’ structure and length affected my social life and ability to study. From my own experience and some studies that I have seen, students benefit if school days are long.
High-school: some kids go to class, some kids go to parties, some kids go Harvard, and other kids drop out. No two kids are the same… that is what makes high school the unique and interesting place that it is. A high school caters to the wants and needs of a large variety of student types. Walking down the hall, you notice a pack of girls chomping on their gum and texting (not inconspicuously) with their football playing suitors dragging along behind – the preps; a group of boys with their glasses pushed well up the bridge of their noses, conspiring about the Big Bang or the derivative of the cubed root of the sine of two pi – the super nerds; and somewhere, running between the other clans, books piled high, scholarship applications flying off the top of their stack, are the stressed-out, college-bound overachievers. It is later that I am concerned about. The way that these college-bound overachievers interpret the expectations of college causes them to lead hectic, stressful lifestyles.
Indeed, a major is required, but it will also influence your education and the perspective from which you will view the world around you. You don’t have to worry too much about your job opportunities, so choose a major you like. It will not only make your education more enjoyable, so you can get the best out of it, but it will also provide you with a more positive view of the world and make your life more pleasant.
Schedules are a difficult thing to balance. A person must find the time to complete a number of tasks in a day. A normal adult may have time to get everything done and still have time to spare. The normal college student on the other hand is constantly on the go. College students have busy schedules that include working, studying, and socializing.
This study involved studying 107 college students in business communications class. The participants included forty-eight men and fifty-seven women all of whom differed in ethnicity. Schommer-Aikens & Easter (2006) thought that epistemology is likely a large part of the way in which students learn and solve problems and if factors such as age, gender or the year of college that the students are in can effect or relate to ways of knowing. Therefore, they wanted to find out in their study how ways of knowing can have anything to do with beliefs about knowledge and learning and whether or not
My Elementary and Middle School years were characterized by a consistent and dedicated work ethic, which was critical in maintaining good grades. While my high school years are highlighted by many accomplishments, which I regard with a higher sense of pride, as they were all accomplished despite any obstacles my disability imposed.
After a person is aware of their ignorance, they can seek knowledge by learning from others and discovering for themselves. Living a life where someone is constantly examining themselves is important because if they do not examine themselves, then they will not have knowledge about the things they do not know about themselves. Learning from others is a passive way of getting to know something because you are not trying to go out and experience it yourself and learn through experiences. Learning from others is crucial early on in a humans’ life. As humans grow up, they should start seeking more knowledge for themselves as opposed to learning from others because seeking knowledge for ourselves can help to get to the deeper truth about themselves or something else. In school, students often are learning from others instead of gaining knowledge themselves. When students start to discover knowledge themselves, they are trying to get to the truth and are interested in gaining knowledge about the
A new experience, a change from the norm, looking out for myself, and living on my own: for me this is college. The transition of high school student to college seemed immensely overwhelming and even a bit scary. The shift opened a can of worms and created challenges, both good and bad, behind every corner. Due to the change of scene, I am now dealing with the everyday acceptance of the greater world around me: the town, the people and my new life.
