Prideful Sin “There are six things the lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.“ Haughty eyes are those who look down on people and are full of the first sin ever before mankind was ever created. Pride was the cause of Lucifer’s fall whose name was later changed to Satan or the Devil as noted in Ezekiel 28:17: “Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth. In the bible god says that pride comes before destruction. Webster’s definition of pride is “a feeling or deep pleasure of satisfaction derived from one’s own achievement”. The fall of prideful people goes further than the biblical times. There are many famous people today who have fallen to this sin. A perfect example is Tiger Woods, in today’s world I believe that famous people think just because they go against the “social norm” because they are famous they can do things and get away with it. Tiger Woods was one of these humans who believed that he could sleep around with many of females with no repercussions when he got caught. This caused him to loose not only his family but his reputation and many end endorsements he had that paid millions. Another person would be Mr. Charlie Sheen who believed that he is superior to all things sometimes even the written out law. His pride caused him his life, family and reputation also as a famous actor. I have been playing basketball my whole life year around. I sacrificed many summers to play basketball. I was on the same... ... middle of paper ... ...life. I admitted that I have been looking at the way I went upon basketball wrong and, and it would have been much easier to just quit but basketball is what I loved so I changed as a person and it really helped me out in the long run. Pride is the root of all evil and it is prevalent in the bible simply because it was the first sin ever committed even before there was any kind of human life on earth. The devil eventually exemplifies all seven of the sins in his lifetime. it’s just that his pride so happen to be the first one that caused him to get sent to hell where he began committing and influencing others to commit sin. To me pride isn’t a bad thing at all, until you take your pride in turn it in to you believing that you are superior to others because of your personal accomplishments and then that’s when you are committing the first of the seven deadly sins.
