The business environment has known many challenges in the late seventies in the technology arena. Most of the well established companies did not have a system where various departments could easily share information and communicate with each other. It was until the beginning of 1990, a new class of software systems commonly known in the industry as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have emerged in the marketplace mainly designed for large complex business organizations.
It was a major breakthrough in the history of computing and information systems. This seamless integration of all departments and functions across a company onto a single computer system was born while improving communication, productivity, and running operations more efficiently. Even though the implementation of an ERP system can be costly, difficult to adapt but the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
