“Don't be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.” This quote ( from Essential Rumi by the poet and theologian, Rumi) is perhaps one of my favorite inspirational quotes. To me, it’s telling me that rather than read and hear and learn about what other people do and what other people can accomplish, that I should accomplish something myself. I should put the pen to paper and write my place out in history. Everyone has the potential to craft their own tale. But I want to do more than that. I want my story to be remembered throughout history. I want to do something important and meaningful with my life. With the right start I know that I, like everyone else, have the ability to create high mountains peaks and crystal-clear streams in my life. I can write the elements of plot that contain my life in any way that I please. And with this ability, I want to write something great.

However, if I wanted to become the author of my own life, what would my story even be about? Often when political scientists attempt to predict future events within the economy, many of them reflect on economic events of the past. Likewise, if I want a clear picture of what I’m going to be happy doing with my life, I should reflect on what I’ve been interested in up to this point. Throughout my life I’ve been very involved in drama. Plays, musicals, the school’s forensics team, you name it. If it’s drama related, I’ve probably tried it. I enjoy music as well. I’ve played piano for about eight years, and I sing a little, on occasion. But would I want to pursue a career in the arts? I’ve considered it, but I feel that science has been more of a true passion of mine. I’m absolutely fascinated with the human body. Particularly...

...here has to be a job within the FBI that requires knowledge of how human biology effects the brain. Upon further research, I found that science degrees were actually in high demand! That could be a definite plot twist in my story if I chose to go that route. Who knows where my tale would lead to then! Could I have a chance as a team leader? A Chief? FBI Director, perhaps? The possibilities are endless!

Whether I do chose to go down the path of medicine and research, or down the road that leads to enforcement against drug use, the variations of my story seem never ending. But I know that in the end I have the power to chose which road I travel down. The pen will remain in my hand, and I can write my story’s resolution any way I please. And with a chance to excel with higher education, I know that my story has just begun.
