Objectives This report will investigate and report organisational behaviour issues in the Lancashire Constabulary the chosen public service organisation. The objectives covered in this report are set out below: • Roles and responsibilities of the individuals within Lancashire Constabulary when analysed against learning, personal communication, perception and motivation. • A review of group formation, group structure, groups and team working and a judgement of the role of the groups and the teams within the Lancashire Constabulary. • How is work designed for employees to perform, how are their roles defined in the organisation and how does it affect their behaviour. This aim shall be derived by studying work design and structure and organisation strategy and design. • Organisation processes will be evaluated with and explanation of organisation development, organisational change, organisational culture, and human resource management. • Lastly examining leadership, decision-making, conflict, power, and politics will appraise organisational management. Introduction The public sector is made up of local and central government, public corporations, universities, schools, colleges, hospitals, criminal justice system, and businesses that are owned by government. In the last twenty years the number of government-owned businesses in the UK has reduced. A group is a combination of people with some common characteristics or similar purpose some examples of which are: • Mutual goals • Aware of other members • Ability to act in a unitary manner. • Group awareness Workers that form a group within an organisation have proven to operate more successfully because work is known to be a group based activity, thus the corporation of members and individuals with each other helps strengthen this formation.
