Belly button piercing may look cute but most of the people that get one do not understand how dangerous it really is. Many people get this piercing without doing recerch on it and just want it to look pretty and not take care of it. Getting a navel piercing is wrong for three main reasons: the piercing could get infected and push out, the piercing would get trapped in the skin when you gain weight and they would pierce the conception vessel.
Infections
Navel piercings could get infected and may push out of the body. When you get your belly button pierced yes it looks nice and pretty but there are so many infections you could get like nickel.Among all chemical allergens capable of producing allergic skin disease, nickel is the most common in North America. Ten to 15 percent of those who develop a nickel allergy do so when their bodies have been pierced with an instrument containing nickel,"(Benson 32).
Many people are very allergic to nickel and the piercing instruments do have nickel in them so they would have an allergic reaction and “Once a nickel allergy develops, it lasts a lifetime.”(Benson 32).
`Some people, especially women, are allergic to the material in the equipment or piercing and experience painful itching, irritation and swelling.(Downey). Most of the people who pearce don't ask if they have any allergies to nickel or even tell the person whos getting the piercing that it has nickel in it.“Dr. Scheinman reports foods that have a high nickel content can also cause a flare-up of dermatitis in a certain subset of patients”(Benson).
Trapped

This is not always the case, but depending on what type of environment the individuals are usually around, having their care provider covered in tattoos and piercings can be overwhelming. Surveys that were taken from the patients have shown that patients are more intimidated by their nurse if they have tattoos or body piercings. As a health care provider, it is ideal to not have the patient scared. When someone is intimidated, it is much harder for them to be trusting towards someone else. Working in health care, trust is needed from the patient. If there is no trust, a lot of issues can arise. For example, the patient could try to get a new nurse they feel is more trustworthy. If that were to happen, that would make the nurse that was replaced now have a bad reputation. However, not everyone feels the same way about body piercings and tattoos. Using a salt water rinse and avoiding alcohol and spicy foods can also help decrease swelling and infection.

Body piercing in high schools definitely isn't a new subject to me. I have had many run-ins with my school administration about ear and other body piercings. Because of my multiple piercings in my ears, the counselor and the principle have told me before that I cannot have any body piercings. Under other circumstances, I might except that answer. However, since the school dress code does not touch on body piercings in the handbook they cannot say anything and therefore, I can have my body pierced anywhere that I want to and they cannot do anything about it.
