In my opinion, this writing shows me a lot of information about how to build an online resource centre for a diverse student population. With deeply research about many sides and clearly explanation, examples, reasonable evidences, I will have a comprehensive sight about an online resource centre. The vocabulary that they used in this essay is not so complicated, so, I can understand and get involved. However, I think they should have summary and conclusion in the end of the writing to help reader catch the main ideas, especially someone don’t have much time to read all word-by-word. Anyway, no one can deny this is an awesome, effective essay!
I have always considered writing to be a work in progress, and it constantly can be improved. I have always been devoted to writing. I loved to write stories as a child because I could use my creativity and create any type of character I desired. But I have struggled with writing as well. English has never been my forte. I have received A’s, B’s, C’s, and D’s on essays. I truly never found my voice in writing. In my high school, English teachers would give me mixed reviews on my writing. For example, in 9th grade my English teacher said I was organized with my thoughts, and my writing process was excellent. While in 10th,11th grade ,12th grade my teachers only said negative things about my essays. Not being a strong writer made me despise writing. Then I started to believe that writing is not important. I came to conclusion that writing is not important ,because I am going to be a Math major. I had the mindset that I am not a writer, and will never be a writer. But, my thoughts about writing changed when I started taking English at CSUN.
The first essay given in this course was about our whole composing process. This essay was hard to write about and I remember having several grammar mistakes. Sitting down and writing my process on paper,
Anyone who is doing any type of writing piece has a process. They may not know it but it is there and it exists. It is one’s approach to their piece and how they go about accomplishing it. It has to do with how you write it, how many drafts you do, as well as your revision process if you even have one. My writing process however has room for improvement. A summation of my writing process consist of heavy planning, one draft, and little revisions. Anne Lamott, Shirley Rose, and Kathleen Yancey all drew attention to major points through their writing pieces that support and dispute my writing process. Through their pieces they have found a way to inspire, inform, and entertain me all at the same time while passing along great information that
This article is written by Lenin Irvin, who presents the challenges that students have to face when they are required to write academic writing tasks in college and introduces to students to what Academic writing is like. To start off the article introduces "Myths about writing". These myths are misconceptions that students tend to use as rules for a perfect writing. However these don’t just not help, but also lead them to failure. The author also states a crucial step which is developing the “writer sense” .This “writer sense” refers to the awareness of the writing situation in general. In a writing piece a student should see the difference between speaking and writing the article and use the correct punctuation and choice the appropriated
Mina Loy in “Feminist Manifesto” seeks an individual female identify free from the masculine. The three most important characteristics in her writing promote individual freedom, women roles, and feminine status. Loy, in her manifesto seems to choose a destructive path against the man and female in a struggle power of one another. She states in the beginning that women are not equal to men. “be brave & deny at the outset-that pathetic clap-trap war cry woman is the equal of man-she is not” (Loy, 2013, p.1981). She argues that men and women are enemies “the only point at which the interests of the sexes merge-is the sexual embrace” (Loy, 2013, p. 1982). Relationships between men and woman require sharing, but Loy dismisses men by stating women must “seek within yourselves to find out what you are” (Loy, 2013, p. 1982). Women need to find themselves before successfully having a relationship with a man. This would be necessary for the relationship to grow and nurture. Loy states “to obtain results you must make sacrifices” (Loy, 2013. p. 1982). However, making these sacrifices does not r...
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Heidi Estrem says, “...writers use writing to generate knowledge that they didn’t have before.” (Writing is a Knowledge-Making Activity 18). I believe my ability to write without an exact destination
There are endless types of writing styles that people use. They use the one that they believe expresses their thoughts most clearly. I’m not sure if my writing style is part of those that are often used and to be honest, I do not know what type of style I use when I write. I think that the hardest part about writing is just getting started. That is why when I have a writing assignments I always start by using an I-chart. The I-chart is kind of shaped like an I, I learned how to make one when I was in elementary and it always has been useful for when I need to write. The I-chart consists of the top being the Intro, the middle having on the left three main topics and on the right there are examples for the main topics, and the bottom of the
Every essay begins with a blank stare into space, an exasperated sigh, and the inevitable thought: what am I going write about? Or at least that is how they used to begin, and this process may have continued for hours, or even days, with each time I sat down determined to write nothing would make it on the paper. This became a major roadblock in my writing process, because every essay took an unreasonable amount of time thinking about how to approach this topic, typing sentences out and the deleting them. Finally, an idea would come and I would begin to write, the words would finally spill out onto the paper. The terrible experience writing forced me to figure out a new way to brainstorm my essay weeks before the essay was assigned.
In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
Computers are considered standard in a student’s arsenal of weapons used to tackle not only school but also life in general. Computers have the potential to be one of the greatest assets to a student, especially when it comes to writing essays and homework, but they are being used as a crutch when it comes writing sentences with proper grammar, syntax and spelling. A piece of writing is often just like a fingerprint of the author who wrote it. The are distinguishable traits that appear in a majority of pieces the author of the paper composes, and is unboundedly recognizable to any reader. In Composition for College this semester, I have definitely left many clear figure prints on a majority of the paper I have written. However there are some features of my writing this year that are undesirable to me, and any reader who may skim over my papers. In order to change these negative aspects of my writing, I must set a series of goals for myself too make my writing better than it was before, including trouble with using commas, and a series of punctuation errors.
George Orwell in his essay “Why I write”, written in 1946 and published in London, addresses the reasons that made him become a writer and eventually sets four main general principles that are the main drive force for every piece of writing. “I write it because there is some lie that I want to expose, some fact to which I want to draw attention and my initial concern is to get a hearing.” By showing his inner drive to write he portrays a greater picture about writing as he shows how one writes consciously about what concerns one’s feelings and subconscious thinking. The four main principles of writing that Orwell presents in his essay are sheer egoism, aesthetic enthusiasm, historical impulse and political purpose.
While reading Chapter 3, a passage that spoke to me was the portion on creating a voice to match your purpose, audience, and genre. I have issues with this. Due in part to the way I picture my words when I write or type them. I tend to try to speak to people the same way I would in person. While I see nothing wrong with this, it makes it hard for me to write about certain topics. I could write all day about how to train a dog or the steps to giving a tattoo, but would have issues writing about my views on a passage from an Edgar Allen Poe book or what my thoughts are on the educational system in America. My thoughts and views come out in a slang type style and most likely not educated at all. This does not make me incompetent or say that
