What is sustainability? The definition is “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to their needs”, and “the “needs” referred to are broad, and are addressed by the three “E’s” of sustainability --environment, economy, and equity.” (Lallier 11). For this paper, I will use my hometown as the background to create a sustainable community. I will separate my whole village recycling system into 4 parts, these are: food, energy, tree and water system.
This is a small village in GuangDong province, China. This village has a small population which has two hundred seventy eight people live in fifty six houses, and the houses distribute with a half moon pattern. The village is surrounded by mountains on three sides, a medium size lake in front of the village, and a small road is the only way for the village to connect to the outside world. We have plenty of continuous solar resources and wind resources in here. I will make best use of these resources and develop my village with the main concept which is “let the environment to decide the human activity instead of the human activity to decide the environment”(Badiru, 1). I will focus on the environment section to discuss how the sustainable community can keep going in the future.
What is the most important for the people to live? It is the food. In my village, we have a perfect concept to develop our food system which is we should to make living with the local advantages. There are several farmlands located around the area of my village. Some of the farmlands located in the plain and the others are terraces. My villagers are using the plain farmlands to grow rice in the spring and the fall. We will crop the rice in the summer...

...this point, we need to use the water purifier system to filtrate the original water. Even though we have tried our best to insure the drinking water supply system, but most of the time it still depends on the sky. If the rainy period is too short, we will need the artificial rainfall to get more water. I do not have too much idea how to overcome this challenge, all we can do is to insure we make the best use of the water.
Above are the general measures for the environment protection. I can not guarantee all of that can work in the present world, but I hope all of that can give some ideas for the people to develop a feasible method to build up a sustainable community. Even though a person’s power is small, if we do it and suggest our family and friend to follow us, it can become to a huge group. Protecting the environment is protecting ourselves and our offspring.
It is difficult for humans to live in harmony with nature because humans’ selfishness always places profits before our earth’s needs. We live in a consumer society, which we purchase interesting products and dispose of them carelessly. Those products with non-decomposable materials, which make our life easier and more comfortable, result a massive damage to our environment. In the articles, “A Fable for Tomorrow” by Rachel Carson and “Our Animals Rite” by Anna Quindlen, both authors suggest destruction in nature world due to human’s activities. As environment issues presented by scientists, governments around the world start to give highly attention on the environmental protection, but there are many challenges in implementing environmental protection policies. Some of the top environmental concerns are air pollution, climate changing and trash waste. Although people started to aware the horrible consequences due to polluted environment, an efficient life, people apathy toward ecosystem and human's unlimited desires for a confortable life have created obstacles for the world to protect the environment.
I was born in Russian Far East, at a controversial Sakhalin island. The island belong to the chain of islands of the east cost of Russia that is contested by Japan as their own. Around 1950, USSR was colonizing second half of Sakhalin island, as a result, a lot of young people was sent over or came over to build out the island’s economy. My parents were among those settlers. With musical and railroad engineering background, they end up serving in police force and military intelligence division - KGB. Their carrier defined my early childhood. Soviet military took our family across continental USSR and stationed us in many parts of the country such as Ural mountains and finally in central Russia - City of Ivanovo. All of that taught me to travel and to adapt to new surrounding from early days of my life.
However, many people just talk without taking any action. As an old sentence said a man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds. We cannot do anything if we never take actions. So, how can we start? For my personal experience, to protect the environment, we should start from ourselves, from little things such as throw waste into the garbage. If we do these things day by day, we can influence the people who around us. I think the environment will be better than before in our
In 2008 according to United Nations “majority of the world population lives in the urban” ("LINKING POPULATION, POVERTY AND DEVELOPMENT"). That does not hide the fact that people are still suffering from poverty, hunger and malnutrition. The issue of poverty is rapidly increasing, and it is because of the economic instability cause by overexploitation. That is why many poor children have nothing to feed their growling stomachs and nourish their dry bones. In order for us to put a stop to poverty and fix the economy, we need to start taking good care of the environment by practicing environmental sustainability.
We can never do just one thing. This is the first rule of ecology. Everything is connected. This also is a basic principle of major physics, at least for all things at the subatomic level. Therefore, anytime we do anything to protect the natural environment, such as recycling, we are not doing just that one thing. What we choose to do or not do to protect the environment affects everything that is connecting to the environment, which includes just about everything, everywhere. Some of those effects may be small and others large but everything we choose to do or not do, including recycling, matters. Sustainability is the broadest, most inclusive conception of environmental protection or stewardship. Sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising opportunities for the future. It is not just about maintaining the health and productivity of the natural environment but it is maintaining the health and productivity of the social environment, because nature and society are critically interconnect. It is about families, communities, and society as well as air, water, and earth. Sustainability also is inescapably about economics, because the economy is the means by which we, as individuals, relate to our natural and social environments. Nature, society, and economy are all integral parts of the same interconnected completely. Sustainability holds the holistic reality of the

For quite some time, life on earth has been nothing but peaches and cream for several people and because of people who live a non-sustainable life, it has left others with an indistinct outlook on earth’s future. Sustainability to me is doing things that will help prevent harmful things from happening to the environment now and in the future. With the support of the sustainability and more quality ways of living, the Earth Charter is gradually introduced. Through key research I will explain what the Earth Charter is and why it was founded, describe one of its four parts along with the goals and overarching philosophy, and share the impact it has on my life now and in the future.
“Social sustainability is all about our quality of life, at the present and in the future. It is the extent of how a neighbourhood supports residents and prioritizes their well-being. Social sustainability focuses on how the people who live in one area or space relate to one another and function collectively as a comm...
Where such a program is a community-based development activities in order to achieve the well-being of the community in various aspects. Introduction:Farming and me. What is the purpose of farming? In rural areas, agriculture represents the predominant land use and a major component of the viability of rural areas. .
Many people assume that the environment is not in danger. They believe that as technology advances, we do not need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new ways to produce energy. They state that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In reality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are slowly disappearing, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin.
Sustainability can be defined in a number of different ways and is characterized by three main principles and several major components. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, “sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic, and other requirements of present and future generations” (“Sustainability”). Sustainability is made up of three principles: environmental, economic, and social. The social aspect of sustainability involves ensuring that all people are treated justly and liv...
I have understood that the Sustainability study involves the transformation of our civilization toward a regenerative system that promotes healthy and stable ecosystems, consumes natural resources no faster than they can replenish, releases toxic pollutants into our habitat no faster than they can be absorbed, fosters healthy and cohesive habitats that can coexist and continue long time in the future. Sustainability initiatives work to change the world by changing activities in our personal and professional lives to achieve these objectives. I have learned that the Sustainability Revolution is a collection of values centered on healthy ecosystems, economic activities, and social justice. From the intensive focus on this topic during the last few weeks and from further readings on this subject, I have learned that Sustainability encompasses not just conservation and pollution, but a wide array of other issues, including Eco literacy, biodiversity, globalization, socially responsible investing, corporate social responsibility, human rights, population explosion, health, social and environmental justice, farming, labor issues, and women’s rights. I have also learned that Sustainability strategies are essential, transformative, and collaborative work involving participation of hundreds of thousands of citizens, communities and businesses around the world. Every organization and informed citizen needs to understand the perils that lie ahead and contribute their part towards Sustainability
The environment today is not in a good condition, Climate change is evident, and oceans are getting polluted. Rainforrest's are decreasing in size due to deforestation and illegal logging. Animals are getting extinct due to the destruction of their habitats. Natural resources are being consumed at very large amounts, and get wasted. There are different ways these problems can be addressed, one option is environmental management. Environmental management focuses on conservation of natural resources, protection of habitats, and impact of humans on the environment. Conservation of natural resources is the smart use of the world's resources by humans, through this waste production is limited, and there will be less garbage in the world. By conserving
