This will be the second American Indian studies class I have taken, with the first being American Indian Studies 210 last year. It has been interesting seeing the similarities in perception and treatment of the tribes we have covered. What I would like to talk about in this paper is a problem I have noticed in both of these classes and that problem is stereotyping people with misinformation. I will start with politics first as it is the easiest to relate to. Whenever election time rolls around so do the smear campaigns and smear campaigns are meant to blow an issue completely out of proportion. The goal of doing this is to make the other person look bad by bending the truth because people are blinded by anger. So if you can find a hot button issue that riles people up, it doesn’t really matter how accurate the information is the damage will already be done before everything is sorted out.
