My first reaction that came to my mind was that, keeping track of everything I do would be a waste of time. When I first started keeping track I kept forgetting to write down the times and things I was doing and how long I did that activity for. As I spent the first day forgetting to write down the time and activities I did, the second day and after that, it was getting a little easier to track most of what I did for the whole day. On the weekends, keeping time was getting difficult for me because for the whole day I would be hanging out with my friends or not even is at home which was hard or I would forget.
One of the methods that I was using was that when I started doing activities I would open my notebook and write down the activities name, start time, and the time I finished it.
Now that I’ve used Excel it’s a program that is more advanced then Microsoft Word. Excel is one of the programs I have never used or even looked at. This program was hard and complicated when I first opened and looked at it. It organizes your writing and makes it look professional for keeping track of time, a schedule, and working hours. The one thing I learned about Excel was that it’s not that hard for someone to use the program and write something in it, once you get the hang of it you will love excel. Enjoy!

...ep a lot when I could be doing other activities then sitting on the couch or laying in bed. I would like to change how I spent my time during the seven days of my life. Two things I could change would be; How much of TV I watch and how much homework I do. Being on the couch all day makes you gain weigh and you will eyes problems. Doing homework isn’t a bad thing have some fun and be active also. Watching TV for a whole day makes you lazy, tired, and you would probably be a boring person.
This project was helpful to me because it made me realize things I need to change about my life. I’ve learned how to use Excel, Graphs and Charts, which I knew but went it depth with it. It made me recognize what I do for a whole day. The Time Budget Data Log was something that became part of my life and it was something that I remembered all the time once I began the project.
I often feel I am short of time when I have many things to do at one time point and this is very stressful. With effective time management, I discovered many ways in which I can be successful with the management of my time and able to adjust my schedules and to lower time stress. For example, I took time to check my everyday activity and where do I spend most of my time. By careful evaluation, I realize I spent my time browsing the internet which often focus on some of the unproductive things. I started making my time productive by active focusing on important goals which included fitness, scheduling important work to less important tasks every day and slowly I effectively organized myself.
In accounting we had to do balance sheets at home we were allowed to use the computer and I used excel because it lets you draw things up in charts easy and look at your data as a whole clearly it also saves time by not making you do calculations yourself because you can get it to add up all the figure in a column or row.
The project ended up not being particularly valuable for me in the sense that the change was never really able to become permanent. This is most likely directly because I did not strictly adhere to my change plan either by choice or by extenuating circumstance. The project has shown me that in order for a difficult change to be made it has to be an incredibly high priority. My change ended up not being as high on my priority list as studying for exams or going out with friends when I had limited time around exams which was ultimately the downfall of my change.
When I am at my placement, I demonstrate this area of learning when I write reports. I need to manage my time wisely when I’m typing up reports because I need to make sure that I finish by the end of that workday.

According to Time Management Strategies (n.d.), there are three steps for staying on-task and on-time. They are setting goals, prioritization, and planning. A person should set goals that are SMART goals. SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely (Time Management Strategies, n.d.). I use all of these steps to help me stay on-task and on-time. I write everything I need to do the day into my planner and refer back to it when I get done with a task to see what I should be doing next.

One of the most popular types of charts is the pie chart. The pie chart is used to visually represent the proportional value of individual parts to the whole. As the name describes, this is done by representing the numerical equivalence of each part as a piece of the whole pie, which in total equates to 100%. The Pennsylvania Department of Health (2001) says that pie charts are a good choice when a relatively small amount of parts, perhaps 3 to 7, need to be represented. With any more it becomes difficult to notice the differences in magnitude; thus, the pie chart loses its simplicity and impact. They can only be used when a total amount is known, one such example would be an election where the total of votes received by all candidates equals 100% of the votes. Or a budget where the total amount spending is divided in to categories such as labor, facilities costs, advertising, etc… which always are a part of the total. However, according to McBride (2003), the pie chart could not be used to show a change in spending through out a period. A pie chart shows data at one instance, like a snapshot and cannot be used to show change in data over time (para. 4). With the advent of computers, 3D graphs have become somewhat popular, unfortunately a negative aspect is that they add complexity to the image and can distort visual proportional value. It is recommended to stick with flat “2D” charts (para. 6).
