BIOLA University
BIOLA University, located in La Mirada California, is a four year university that offers bachelor, masters, and doctorate degrees. BIOLA stands for Bible Institute of Los Angeles. BIOLA is a private bible college and they require undergraduate students attending there to minor in bible. Some majors available include Business/Marketing, Theology, Visual and Performing Arts, Psychology, and Communications. The major I am most interested in is Biology. They offer a bachelors degree in general biology. Full-time tuition cost $32,142 but the average cost with financial aid is $16,910. The student population is 4,353 undergraduates, and 42% of these undergrads live in school housing. The housing offered is coed, men’s, women’s, and apartments. The minimum requirements for admittance are a 2.75 cumulative GPA. At my current GPA and probable SAT score, merit scholarships would be $12,000. Athletics include Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, and Soccer and many intramural sports are an option. Some of BIOLA’s activities to do include campus ministry, radio station, yearbook, opera, and drama/theatre. The retention rate after freshman year is 15%. The graduation rate is 69% after six years. The student to teacher ratio is 16 students every 1 faculty member. This number seems poor but when comparing it to other colleges it is a common number. I would like to attend this college because I have seen the campus, I understand the cost, and my brother attends this college. I have been there and the community is great. The amount of students that apply to Western Oregon is 2,841 and the amount of students accepted is 2,510. The amount that enrolls into Western Oregon is 1,027. Some important aspects Western Oregon looks at when someone applies are academic GPA, rigor of secondary school record, and standardized test scores. To apply, someone is required to take the SAT or ACT. Western Oregon offers AP credits but not CLEP credits for a wide variety of subjects. Overall, Western Oregon is a great public school that I am not very affiliated with. I would need to do more research, take a college visit, and ask others about their ideas on Western Oregon. My cousin attended there and he could be a great resource for me to use when deciding what college to attend.
