Small-minded administrators and authority figures like to speak in clichés. All my life I heard the same trite line: “ You can tell a lot about a person by the friends they keep.” The black sheep of the honors program, I hung out with the so-called “ losers.”
During my freshman year, not a day went by when a teacher or family member did not deride my closest friends and warn me that by hanging out with “ bad seeds” I would fall into a downward spiral, never graduate college, and have a miserable life. They thought that they had me figured out.
One day, while my ninth grade math teacher, Mr. Pedersen, was reviewing some math concepts with me, my friend Mariam ran by the classroom, stuck her head in the doorway, called out: “ Hi Yassee, ” and then ran away. Mr. Pedersen looked at me coldly and said with a scowl: “ How can you call yourself an Honors student? A real honors student doesn’t associate with people like that!” I wanted to ask him how he could call himself a teacher; after all, a real teacher is supposed to want to help everyone. Instead, I sat silent, stunned by his ignorance and cruelty. He wanted me to drop my childhood friends simply because they didn’t place the same importance on schoolwork that I do. If he had thought before speaking, he would have realized that people like him, rather than people like my friends, are better able to turn good students into poor ones by discouraging them with ridiculous comments.
I would never slight Mariam. One of my closest friends in freshman year, she was also a below average, non-college bound student. Many of the adults in my life, especially my parents and teachers, would look at those closest to me: Mariam, Alisa, Zena, Lianne, and Marvin, and ask how I could call these “ low-life losers” my friends. But such questions show a lack of understanding of the nature of friendship. Friendship is unconditional and uncritical, based only on mutual respect and the ability to enjoy each other’ s company. These authority figures never saw the way one of us could do something outrageous, and the rest of us would joke about it for days. We could have fun doing absolutely nothing at all - because the company we provided each other with was enough.

All organisms are made of cells that grow by cell division. An adult human being consists of about 100000 billion cells. Dying cells are replaced by a large number of unceasingly dividing cells. A cell duplicates its chromosomes, segregates the chromosomes, and divides into two. These ordered sequences of events are called a cell cycle. 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to Hartwell, Hunt, Nurse and 1998 Lasker Prizes in Basic Medical Research to Hartwell, Masui, Nurse have made important discoveries about the regulation of a cell cycle. Understanding the regulation of a cell cycle is seminal to understanding why and how cancer cells are formed. In this review, I focus on how these crucial discoveries made progress in understanding cell cycle regulation and leading to understanding cancer cell and cancer therapy.

The Newton North high school advises their students by providing them vast programs and Advance Placement courses to achieve an A’s in order to step into a top-notch named school, whereas in “rebel high” there were two types of classes; the AP class and the regular class. I was in the regular class, where girls only concerned with their appearance and maintaining their reputation, whereas the AP students maintaining keeping straight A's. Instead of them doing their class assignment, they asked for assisting in giving them the answers to the questions, which my smart-aleck response to them was “look in the book of knowledge.”
The first sub phase of this is prophase 1 and this is split up into 5 stages. The first one is leptotene and this is where the chromosomes supercoil. The second one is zygotene and this is where the homologous chromosomes form pairs and these are called bivalents. Pachytene is where crossing over occurs between the homologous chromosomes and chiasmata form. Diplotene is where they start to separate but remain attached to each other by the chiasmata. Diakinesis is the last stage and this is where they keep separating and the chiasmata moves to the ends of the chromosome (GENIE, 2010). The second phase is prometaphase and this is where the spindle fibres assemble and the chromosomes become anchored to them by their kinetochores. Metaphase 1 is where the bivalents assort randomly on the metaphase plate. This helps to create genetic diversity. Anaphase 1 is where the bivalents separate and the homologous chromosomes move to opposite poles of the cell. Telophase 1 is where the nuclear envelope reforms after disintegrating in prophase 1. Then cytokinesis is where the cell divides to create two new cells which are haploid (GENIE, 2010). The next main stage is meiosis 2 and this is where each chromosome is split into 2 sister chromatids. Prophase 2 is the first stage and this is where the chromosomes supercoil, the mitotic spindle forms and the nuclear envelope disintegrates. In many low income communities, there are teachers that are careless and provide their students with poor quality education. These teachers are there just to make sure that they keep receiving their monthly paychecks and act in this way because they believe that low income students do not have the drive, the passion, or the potential to be able to make something of themselves and one day be in a better place than they are now. Anyon reveals that in working class schools student’s “Work is often evaluated not according to whether it is right or wrong but according to whether the children followed the right steps.” (3). This is important because it demonstrates that low income students are being taught in a very basic way. These children are being negatively affected by this because if they are always being taught in this way then they will never be challenged academically, which can play a huge role in their futures. Sherif (1936) studied responses of the auto-kinetic effect on both groups and individuals. By placing participants in a darkened room with a minute source of light at the far end he discovered that participants were eluded and saw the light moving - this was because there was no other point of reference for them to focus on. Participants were asked how far the light was moving, when alone they would state many different answers but when groups were tested the answers of the last participants were taken as a reference for the next answer this created a group norm, this group influence was to be so powerful that when participants of the group test were to proceed as individuals those answers had become internalised and a lack of individuality was now seen amongst group. Within cell division, there are some key roles that are known as nuclear division and cytokinesis. There are two types within nuclear division. Those two types being mitosis and meiosis. My family has influenced the way I see the world by creating an environment that encouraged certain behaviors or actions considered positive and quickly disciplined and corrected any considered negative. With a knowledge of acceptable and improper behaviors, my own moral guideline was created, allowing me to judge the character of others and choose the personalities I wished to surround myself with. The interactions with these people caused me to cultivate particular personality traits, these personality traits then influenced the development of my pervasive principles of influence. It is the development of these pervasive principles of influence that fundamentally define my perception of others, as well as largely direct most future interactions.

In college a student should question what it means to be part of a clique. Although they were popular in high school, many students do not belong to cliques in college. In fact, being involved in a clique simply portrays a student as being scared to make new contacts and expand his or her world. In sum, how a person socializes in college can lead to one’s development or downfall. Losing track of goals is the last thing a student wishes to do. How we socialize tells our classmates and future employers who we are. Socialization in college makes us open ourselves to the world, and in so doing, we must assume responsibility for all our choices.
