The Avocado, The State Fruit Of California
A lot of people would find it easier to name some fruit in California rather than to define its state fruit. California has a wide variety of fruit choices, and each of them has a different way to be consumed and its own meaning. What is the state fruit of California? This is a pretty difficult question to answer. The “fruitful paradise” (Steinbeck 64) in “Montalvo, Myths and Dreams of Home” by Thomas Steinbeck in My California, has not chosen an official state fruit. The Avocado should be named as the official fruit of the state among many fruits because of its importance for Californians in terms of geographic conditions, productivity, health benefits and cuisine.
The geographic conditions such as climates and soils in California are the first reason why the Avocado should be called the state fruit of California. Many individuals think that the Avocado is a kind of vegetable, but it is a fruit instead. The Avocado is a subtropical species so it usually lives in the climate without frost and with little wind condition. These climates are available only in tropical countries such as Chile, Indonesia, India, Central America, and Australia. The geographic conditions in California are perfectly suitable for Avocado. California’s climates vary differently due to the influence of the ocean. It is mostly cool and rainy in the winter, hot and dry in the summer. The Avocado can easily maximize its development due to the warm and sunny weather in California. Moreover, soils are also the important factors for whether the tree or the fruits. In conclusion, we can proudly say that the Avocado can be named as a state fruit of California because of its important role in in terms of geographic conditions, productivity, health benefits and cuisine. For many people, Avocados have become a necessary ingredient for their daily diet. Californians love Avocado. It not only benefits our health but also popularizes the cuisine of California to the world. The state government should concern those reasons as a serious consideration and name the Avocado as the state fruit of California because ‘that’s what happens when [we]’re in love” with Avocado.(Steinbeck 68)
