green of the american dream

Imagine what it feels like to have extreme wealth, live in a mansion, and do everything you have ever dreamed about. Now, when you compare this to your American dream it seems small, tiny, and has begun to grow. The same can be true with fire, as once a spark ignites kindling; that fire grows and does what it needs to and dreams to become larger and less controllable. This can be seen in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the following ways. First, Gatsby’s dream causes a drastic change for his future. Then this change results in negative events and actions that hurt him mentally and physically. Finally Gatsby’s needs from his dream become too large and out of reach. Both good or bad desire can and will change your future permanently.

...t the funeral showing that big dreams can result in only a few people coming to your funeral to remember how ‘great’ you were. As society viewed Gatsby as frivolous, a chain of events was set off leaving the permanent effect of green on his very large American Dream.

Gatsby's fire was ignited by many shades of love between him and Daisy. This fire grew through his reliance on fuel(love) and wealth, but green is the force that stops and prevents dreams from coming true. This was shown through his gradual decline in society until he hit rock bottom with the pasquinade of killing Myrtle in the newspapers. Through these dreams sparks can be found along with primed material allowing for part of your dream to be reachable, while some kindling does not burn causing that dream to be unattainable like the green commonly seen in Gatsby's life.
