“A room without a book is like a body without a soul”. Books are a very important part of life; they can be used for learning, entertainment, research, and many other things. That is why people are always on lookout for the next book that will change their lives. People all around the world are reading; and to have people share the personal experience they had with a book is every book junkie’s dream. There are two very popular websites that’s sole purpose is to have fellow readers around the world rate the books they have read and make a recommendation to other avid readers, those websites are goodreads.com and yournextread.com. These websites are crucial to read-oholic on the lookout for their next hit. I believe that yournextread.com is more effective in reaching its target audience than goodreads.com. The categories they are being compared in are visual appeal, user friendliness, audience, interactive and the quality of information.
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten” Reading is a part of everyday life and the websites goodreads.com and yourextread.com allow to dive even deeper in to the literary world by connecting you with hundreds of thousands of people who have a least one thing in common; they love of books. These two website both are attempting to lead book lovers to their next big read; I chose to judge them on this criteria because I as someone who believes that the adventures and journeys that books take us on are crucial to are development as human beings, so I spend a lot of time on these websites and I think the some are better than others.

...lar subject, and on these websites what the audience seeks is their next favorite read. Yournextread.com has an abundance of information about the books, the authors, as well as personal recommendation and what book prompted that person to read it. On goodreads.com they have a lot of information about the books and personal recommendations, but not much about the author. Some might argue that goodreads.com has more a section where people can discuss their favorite parts and quotes of the book, but this may be ruining the suspense of the book for someone who is considering reading it.
Both goodreads.com and yournextread.com are good websites for people looking for book recommendations, but I believe that yournextread.com reaches the target audience of avid readers better than goodreads.com. I recommend that when looking for a new book to read visit yournextread.com.
Children can identify themselves with fairy-tale characters; they imagine themselves as heroes, who are capable of killing dragons, or simpletons, who demonstrate the superiority over clever people. Fantasies based on the fairy tales are extremely important part of the children’s lives, and this is not only because they describe threatening situations that resemble main fears of a young child such as the fear of getting lost, fear of wrong decisions, fear of monsters or evil animals. Happy endings, which are always present in fairy tales, give children the confidence that despite all their fears they will be able to win in the end. This knowledge helps them to prepare for the difficulties of life, regardless whether they are real or imagined (Doughty, 2006).
Are they bad books or bad writers, procrastinated or not well thought about, and most importantly will one want to finish read the book for any of those reasons? These are all questions that could be thought as one is reading a new book. Tara Dugan of the Millions Online Magazine stated:
In a world dominated by technology, reading novels has become dull. Instead of immersing into books, we choose to listen to Justin Bieber’s new songs and to scroll through Instagram posts. We have come to completely neglect the simple pleasures of flipping through pages and getting to finally finish a story. Sherman Alexie and Stephan King’s essays attempt to revive this interest in books that has long been lost. They remind us of the important role that reading plays in our daily lives. “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me,” for instance, demonstrates how being literate saved the narrator from the oppressive nature of society. The author explains that even though he was capable of reading complex books at an astonishingly young
I get my reading interest from my sister, when she was done with a book I would pick it up so that I can encounter those same experiences, and because I did so I realized every book is similar and different at the same time. Each author had a unique style, but each story would tell of another tale. For exam...
Jeannette Winterson states in her essay, Writer, Reader, Words, "the enjoyment got out of literature is not the enjoyment to be had from a ball game or a video" (Winterson,34). As stated, we live in an era that progresses daily through the technological advancements. Consequently, more and more people are preferring the convenient and concise information that is being offered through the newer technologies rather than the old-fashioned hard copy books. This is a tragedy concerning the fact that books have been around since the early days of civilization and have been giving secondhand experience to readers through text. Thus, we must embrace the traditional hard cover books.
In the “age of electronic entertainment”, Harry Potter novels sharply contrast by luring children away from the internet, and away from video games and the television. Children across the globe are rapidly becoming interested in reading the novels. Katherine Thompson, owner of Frugal Frigate Bookstore, declared the series a “literary phenomena.” She noted that children as young as eight-years-old will devour...
The U.S book industry can be divided into two eras; the time before and after the online bookstores. This case is one of the classic battles between a pure online bookstore and a traditional brick and mortar retailer trying to leverage its resources and capabilities online. Amazon, once an online book store, now has expanded its business into different products and service offerings and markets and captured a significant market share. On the other hand Barnes & Noble, which had tried hard through the 1990s to consolidate the traditional bookselling space with its superstore format, stood miles behind Amazon.
In the past, people saw fairy tales as all-powerful, because they are extraordinary, imaginative, and enrich people’s spiritual worlds. People need fairy tales to satisfy their need for leisure, which is an alternative way for them to escape their repetitive daily tasks. Watching movies can educate individuals about fairy tales. Fairy-tale stories are better read, than when being viewed as movies. Parents read ‘’Little Red Riding Hood’’ with children in order to teach them more traditions from older generations. Teachers require students to read “Snow White’’ to improve their creativity, and “The Three Little Pigs’’ to teach children how to cooperate with others to build their character.

Despite lacking the polish of a professional review, the ability for teens to create relationships and conversationally discuss books is a powerful form of interacting with literature.

Moreover, did the internet kill literature?
Just by reading, can take someone to many exciting adventures. For instance, an adventure that one can go through is “[swimming] in the seas with the little mermaid,” (Reading takes you 1). This is important, because the author is being able to use descriptive details that allows the reader to be able feel/make them like they’re with the character. Another adventure that someone could go through is to “attend fancy balls with Cinderrella,” (Reading takes you 1). When an author is showing these little details, it makes the story powerful, different, and unique. While reading Fault in our stars, I felt like I was with Hazel Grace, throwing the eggs at my blind friend’s ex-girlfriend car, having a blast. It made me there, because when the author had vividly described the background, character, and how they were doing it, the details were so descriptive and powerful to actually have me there with them in the book.
Good and great books differ by nature, not by degree. A good book is not almost a great one; a great book is a totally different creature than a good book. What makes them different is how much they pertain to the human experience. A good book may have one very important meaning, but it is a meaning that only pertains to the time in which it was written. Across the river though, a great book has many meanings. Great books also involve deeper issues, issues that are and always were part of the human experience. A good book only needs to be read once, but to realize all the different meanings of...
