During this semester the class studied three novels. The first, killing Mr.Griffin, was about five students who prank kidnap their English teacher which results in unexpected consequences the Second, Go Ask Alice, was about was about an emotional, distressed adolescents girl who experiences an emotional downward spiral which eventually leads to her death. Finally, One Way is about an adolescents boy entangled in legal problems as a result of an unfortunate accident with his "ex" girlfriend. The main theme of all three novels is conflict. This essay will examine conflict in terms of man vs himself, man vs man and finally man vs nature.
The first type of Conflict is man vs himself. This is shown in killing Mr.Griffin when Susan agrees to help David with the kidnapping plan. Susan agrees to it because she really likes David, so to be with him quiet. So she becomes a decoy in the kidnapping. Also when Susan wanted to tell the cops after Griffin died. Mr. Griffins death was caused by the kidnapping plan backfiring. Susan decided to keep quiet for the sake of her and David's relationship. In Go Ask Alice this type of conflict is shown when Alice decided to let go of the diary she refers to as her best friend. She wants to start integrating with friends. Three weeks after she quits using the diary she dies. Also when, Alice decide to sell LSD to elementary kids. She needs money so she thinks if she doesn't who will, but after feels bad and regretful. In One Way this type of conflict is illustrated when Kenzie debates to punch Logan. He got angry with the comments Logan said about Stassi. So Kenzie punches Logan which leads to legal problems. And also when Mandi debates wether to push Stassi into Kenzie's bike but ...

...ce at the wrong time. and also when Stassi is in the hospital, that is a consequence of the accident. they don't know if she will have permanent brain damage therefore Man vs Nature is a theme in all three novels.
This essay examined conflict in killing Mr. Griffin, go ask Alice, and one way. Man vs Himself was illustrated when Alice decided to sell LSD to elementary students for money she thinks if she doesn't sell it to them who will but then later feels bad and regrets it. Man vs man was shown when Mark copies a university assignment but gets a zero on it from Mr. Griffin and finally man vs Nature was seen when the stoner kid has a video of Mandy pushing Stassi. The stoner was doing a video blog in front of the school and caught the incident happening Kenzie now has proof of his innocence therefore conflict is the main theme of all three novels.
Conflict is the hurdle between characters of a story which create worries for the readers about the next plot of that story and which will be resolved in the next plot. Children’s literature can only engage the reader and make the story successful on the basis of conflict. Conflict produces the drama and which makes their readers more involved in that story. In literary elements, there are three common of conflict in a story: 1. Character vs Character 2. Character vs the world 3. Character vs him/herself. (module 2). Hana’s suitcase story has conflict of character versus the world and The Paper Bag Princess’s story has conflict of character versus society. There are the two different conflicts in the two stories. In Hana’s suitcase, Hana is
themes · The roots of gender; the individual's struggle against society; the unpredictability of nature
In order to create a story, there must be a decent conflict. The conflict helps shape the approach of which a story is going. A conflict can easily be defined as a clash of actions, ideas, desires, and wills. The conflicts of a story can help you differentiate the protagonist from the antagonist. They also help the reader get more involved with the story as they wonder how the problem will get resolved. Conflicts are important in any type of literary fiction. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” written by Richard Connell three conflicts are Rainsford against Zaroff, Rainsford against the environment, and General Zaroff against society.
In the human nature, naive ignorance of the world's imperfections eventually yields to the recognition that the world does contain hatred and violence. John Knowles places his novel A Separate Peace in situations which necessitate this emotional transformation. The characters become increasingly aware of the nature of the world. In addition, symbols help show the interrelation of ideas and events as they appear in Gene's subconscious mind. In this novel, setting, character, and symbols develop the theme of loss of innocence.
5. List three conflicts presented in the novel. Which one do you think is the most significant? Why?
In conclusion, there all sorts of conflicts that are going on around in this book. The four types of conflicts going on are Human vs. Society, Human vs. Self, Human vs. Human and Human vs. Self. Rwandan genocide, poverty, discrimination, oppression, obstacles, and injustice are the reasons for all of the types of conflicts going on in the book ,Shattered. In the end, there will always be a solution available for every problem.
Firstly let us consider conflict. In each act of the play, we see the overpowering desire to belong leading to a climax of conflict amongst the characters, which has the consequence of exclusion. Conflict is a successful literary technique, as it engages the audience and focuses our attention on the issue of conflict and exclusion, brought about by the characters’ desires to be accepted by their community.
The second conflict I found was character vs. self. Prue is fighting with herself about being able to unite the two makers of the Mobius Cog. She’s afraid that she wasn’t meant for this job and that innocent people have died for a hopeless cause. Prue thinks that she can’t save the people
Another internal conflict is how Lilly feels responsible for her mother?s death. When she was four, she accidentally shot her mom, and wasn?t able to forgive herself. The reason she runs away in the first place is because her dad tells her that her mom left her, which is both an internal, and man versus man conflict. She?s mad at her dad for saying it, but can?t fully convince herself that it isn?t true. There?s a man versus society conflict when men beat up Rossaleen because of her color, and another internal conflict when May is so overcome with grief that she cant stop crying.
Moreover, this leads to what exactly is conflict. Conflict is considered to be the very essence of many literary works. Likewise, it is the momentum of happening and change and is very vital for delivering information and building characterization within the literary text. When conflict is conquered, it provides a greater sense of understanding and lessons to be learnt. Conflicts can be internal or external. Internal conflicts exist between the character and his/herself while external conflict exists between two characters or the environment.
In this story there are 4 types of major conflicts and resolutions. There is Person vs. person, self, nature, and society. One of the conflicts are person vs. person. This conflict happens when Charlie Sneed is arrested for poaching. Charlie had hit a deer with his truck and he said that the deer had ran out into road and hit Charlie’s truck. The sheriff said that he was going to take him to jail after he finished his game of pool. Another one of the conflicts are person vs. self. This conflict happens when Clay Boy he just got home from school he went up to his room and started writing a story. Clay Boy had never told anyone about his love for writing because everyone expected him to be just like his father. Person vs. nature this conflict
Several different elements are necessary to create a story. Of all the elements, the conflict is most essential. The conflict connects all pieces of the plot, defines the characters, and drives the story forward. Once a story reaches its climax, the reader should have an emotional connection to the both story and its characters. Not only should emotions be evoked, but a reader should genuinely care about what happens next and the about the end result for the characters. Guy de Maupassant’s “The Necklace” is the perfect example of how a story’s conflict evolved the disposition of its characters.
The learning of word constitutes a major learning task in any language learning. Vocabulary is critical in learning a foreign language. In the words of Wikins (1972) "Without grammar very little can be conveyed. Without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed" (p.111).
The standard language is often viewed and defined through stages in its development. Such stages can, first of all, be described by juxtaposing them to historical developments of societies, as part of a broader history of the society or the language (e.g. Migliorini, 1984 and Chaurand, 1999:11). Another approach of development stages is looking at the standardisation of the language itself (Ferguson, 1968; Haugen, 1966; 1972:252; Leith 1983; Joseph, 1987; Milroy & Milroy, 1987; and Thomas, 1991; Van der Wal and Van Bree, 2008). A more contemporary and synchronic approach to defining standard languages is looking at the general qualities that the language has developed, often including the prototypical speakers to go with these qualities (e.g. Jespersen, 1925; Stewart, 1968:533-539; Finegan, 2007:14; Van der Wal and Van Bree, 1992:369).
Using a language to communicate is one of the main forms of connecting and conversing with other humans. Every human speaks a language and every language is unique. Languages are so unique that the ways in which some of their words are sounded and pronounced vary compared to other languages. However some of the words of one language may have been borrowed from the words of another language. As Bucholtz, M.(2000) states “English will continue to shape the youth styles of other cultures” and “the process of cultural and linguistic borrowing moves in [two] directions…Asia [is] already having a significant impact on American youth, who regularly encounter mediated forms of international youth culture in music, film, and fashion ” p 280-283. This is why we have some similarities between different languages.
