Google:
Google is a cross-functional organization that it maintains though stellar leadership and innovative management techniques. Their cross-function organizational structure is more of a team approach to management and is structured horizontally. According to google, they purposively maintain a small-company feel, believing every employee is a hands-on contributor and everyone is an equally important part of google success. The company corporation structure enables its employees have the freedom to spend 70 percent of their time on current assignments, 20 percent on related projects of their choosing, and 10 percent on new projects in any area they desire. Its open communication brings Google the industry leader status. In addition, Google is a major conglomerate formed with its main corporation focus and its various sub-corporations. In Master Switch, Tim Wu mentions that he believes Google is the current custodian of Master Switch. Since Google is highly specialized and has efficient control of their search engine and a lack of vertical integration corporate structure, Wu believes it brings their greatest strength and vulnerability. As we know, Google’s sole focus is on its powerful search engine. They try to organize the world’s information and make it accessible and useful to every user. Undoubtedly, Google search is Google’s safe “castle” that brings Google main profit and insures the capital for Google’s further investments or other Google product by generating the ads revenue. In article “Meaning of open”, author Rosenberg talks about the “openness” about Google. He explains that Google wants the internet to be open such that it will make the access easier and create a better product easie...

...any likes the free system. Apple’s close system helps Apple generate enormous amount of profit before, but today as Rosenberg says “open win”. Skimpily because the programmers who want to write an application on the windows or android system does not need the approval from Microsoft or Google. But they need to get the approval from Apple. “Openness” creates much free environment for people’s innovations and help firms improve their products. Meanwhile more and more people are using open system will affect other users to use these systems because it is better and better and more software they can run. Today internets and technology develop much faster year after year, if Apple wants to stay competitive in the market, the better way is to open the system to bring more people in, offering better products to the customers. It is the time for Apple to be “open” again.
The Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established to provide employees with ability to take a leave from work for personal or family health issues. The Act lays out specific circumstance in which an employee may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave within a 12 month period. Under the law, employees may request a leave for personal health issues, to care for a child, spouse or parent with serious health issues, birth or care of a child during the first year or for newly placed adoptions within one year. Employees are covered under FMLA if the employer has 50 or more employees and the employee has worked for the employer for at least 12 months. The employee must submit a written request for FMLA and provide documentation supporting their request. Once approved, the employee may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. Upon return the employee is guaranteed a job, if the employer had to fill their position out of business necessity, the employer must provide the employee with a position with equal responsibility and pay.
The films The Searchers and Avatar both make use of the master narratives of regulating social order and disorder. One is used as a way to reinforce this narrative, while the latter is shaped more towards critiquing the overall of ideal of the American social order. The struggle presented by an external threats in both films give the opportunity of interpreting and contrasting the master narrative and the effects that can come from imbalances in social orders.
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view – until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Harper Lee identifies many charcters in the beginning of this book. She was very descriptive of all the characters in the beginning of the book. Each character was described from Scout’s point of view. Throughout the book, Lee lets the reader see some of the characters in their natural environments. They are still written through Scout’s eyes, but instead of passing by them on the sidewalk, Scout is in their home sitting with them, or hearing personal stories about them. Three of these characters that Scout points out specifically are Jem Finch, Aunt Alexandra, and Tom Robinson.
Democratic is when citizens vote for all elected officials. Many had defied political system as it was, and thrived towards to create a democratic system that will be beneficial for America as a whole. Andrew Jackson was one of those individuals who challenged the government’s views, and whose name is tied closely to democracy. This essay will focus on the aspects that made this president so great and how democratic was he in actual fact.
“I'm a romantic; a sentimental person thinks things will last, a romantic person hopes against hope that they won't.” F. Scott Fitzgerald said this and it is very apparent that he feels this way in The Great Gatsby. In this novel filled with the experiences of a group of supercilious, rich, white people, Fitzgerald shows this with the many symbols he uses throughout the novel. Among the most arresting are the Green Light at the end of the Buchanan’s dock, which Gatsby envies for, the color white, which deceives readers with Daisy’s deceitful beauty, and the Eyes of T.J. Eckleburg, which sees all wrong done by the characters.
Interprofessional Practice (IPP) is the ability to provide a comprehensive health care service to all patients. Healthcare providers achieve this joining together and working collaboratively to deliver quality care across a range of healthcare settings. An interprofessional setting may offer several benefits to patients, including improved access to healthcare, less conflict and tension amongst caregivers, improved use of clinical resources, better retention of staff, better results for patients in particular those with chronic diseases. Throughout Greek mythology male gods were seen as a more superior god then females. Our society has changed drastically since these stories were written. The female characters in Greek mythology tend to be docile and submissive. Their roles were to play as the house wives and to serve for their husband. Most of the heroic characters in Greek mythology were the males. Greek mythology believed that male gods were more dominant to female gods, so therefore they made most of the decisions. In Greek mythology some of the actions of the character are often based on gender role stereotypes, which we still see in our society today.
What constitutes the legacy of the welfare regimes? In contemporary debates two questions arise more highly than any others. Cardinally, does social citizenship decrease the convexity of class? – or otherwise presented – could the capitalist society be crucially revolutionised by the welfare state? And secondly, what are the columns that support the development of the welfare state? ( Esping-Andersen, 1990).
Do not end up in situations that can be avoided. Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a novel set on a tropical island, explores the idea of mind control. In this story there are a group of schoolboys that get into a plane crash and are left without adults. As adolescents they decide who gets the power to be leader and out of them. Ralph is picked because of his appearance. Throughout the book a character Jack abuses his power and then because his influence on the others it leads to the death of two schoolboys. In Lord of the Flies Golding’s point is to demonstrate that people react to bad stimulus without realizing it,which results in an emotional breakdown.
During the Great Depression, while the competitors were cutting costs and reusing outdated designs, Kress was expanding and building more elaborate stores than their previous ones. The architecture was referred to as an “emporium” evoking an elegant atmosphere more suited to a fine cloth or furniture store in New York rather than the five & dime stores dotting small town America. Many wonder what the driving force was behind these design decisions, especially during a national time of economic recession. Perhaps simply to outpace the competition, but perhaps more importantly Samuel Kress was an avid art collector and a proponent of public art enhancing a community. In this way the Kress legacy of the brand became more than a retail business, it became a symbol of small town civic pride.
As we all know, life reflects Poetry, poetry nurture each soul, poetic beauty of salvation. That is the unchanging values seem to never change in the lives of each of us. When I was young, my mom put me to sleep by the soothing poem. So, I was familiar with the verse. Last week, I read two poems “As I Walked out one evening” and the “The more loving one”, which were written by W.H. Auden. English is m second language, so it is hard to understand the English’s poem by form or theme. However, that is an interesting experience for me anyway. After read, I really like both of them, but I prefer the “As I walked out one evening”, because it relates to human condition such as the lovers and the clocks.
The book “Women: Images and Realities a Multicultural Anthology,” by Suzanne Kelly, has many impactful essays, poems, and stories. The essay which I found to be the signal most impactful essay is entitled “ Fence Sitters, Switch Hitters, and Bi-Bi Girls: An Exploration of Hapa and Bisexual Identities,” by Beverly Yuen Thompson. Thompson, a biracial woman of Asian and Anglo heritage wrote this essay in 2000. In the essay Thompson addresses several aspects of her identity but the part of the essay that affected me the most was her explanation of what it was like growing up as a biracial child and how that affected her later on in life. The reason this essay resonates so deeply with me is because my children are biracial and it is heart wrenching to read this essay and think about some of the experiences that Thompson describes. I found myself thinking of experiences my children have experienced or may experience in their lives and I can’t help but to wonder if they have shared or will share Thompson’s thoughts and emotions.
