From online networking to online banking, today most people use their smartphones in order to make their lives easier, but many don’t think to use their phones to make themselves safer. The world is getting more and more wireless; you can drive to any local restaurant or local hangout to find a place with WiFi. Today’s technologies are becoming so advanced that you can now use your wireless smartphone to control the appliances at home, close the garage door, lock the front door, and activate security cameras from miles away. There are many benefits to this type of security system including: noninvasive installation, a more advanced alert system, they are less vulnerable to system malfunctions, remote monitoring is possible, and overall they are just easier to use. When I was younger, I slept over my friend’s house one night while her security system was being installed. They gutted her walls to install this alarm system and if one of the dozen wires became disconnected the whole system was deemed defective and they had to redo the whole installation. All in all, it was an expensiv...
The Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established to provide employees with ability to take a leave from work for personal or family health issues. The Act lays out specific circumstance in which an employee may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave within a 12 month period. Employees are covered under FMLA if the employer has 50 or more employees and the employee has worked for the employer for at least 12 months. The employee must submit a written request for FMLA and provide documentation supporting their request. Once approved, the employee may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. Upon return the employee is guaranteed a job, if the employer had to fill their position out of business necessity, the employer must provide the employee with a position with equal responsibility and pay.
The films The Searchers and Avatar both make use of the master narratives of regulating social order and disorder. One is used as a way to reinforce this narrative, while the latter is shaped more towards critiquing the overall of ideal of the American social order. The struggle presented by an external threats in both films give the opportunity of interpreting and contrasting the master narrative and the effects that can come from imbalances in social orders.
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view – until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Harper Lee identifies many charcters in the beginning of this book. She was very descriptive of all the characters in the beginning of the book. Each character was described from Scout’s point of view. Throughout the book, Lee lets the reader see some of the characters in their natural environments. They are still written through Scout’s eyes, but instead of passing by them on the sidewalk, Scout is in their home sitting with them, or hearing personal stories about them. Three of these characters that Scout points out specifically are Jem Finch, Aunt Alexandra, and Tom Robinson.
Democratic is when citizens vote for all elected officials. Many had defied political system as it was, and thrived towards to create a democratic system that will be beneficial for America as a whole. Andrew Jackson was one of those individuals who challenged the government’s views, and whose name is tied closely to democracy. This essay will focus on the aspects that made this president so great and how democratic was he in actual fact.
“I'm a romantic; a sentimental person thinks things will last, a romantic person hopes against hope that they won't.” F. Scott Fitzgerald said this and it is very apparent that he feels this way in The Great Gatsby. In this novel filled with the experiences of a group of supercilious, rich, white people, Fitzgerald shows this with the many symbols he uses throughout the novel. Among the most arresting are the Green Light at the end of the Buchanan’s dock, which Gatsby envies for, the color white, which deceives readers with Daisy’s deceitful beauty, and the Eyes of T.J. Eckleburg, which sees all wrong done by the characters.
Interprofessional Practice (IPP) is the ability to provide a comprehensive health care service to all patients. Healthcare providers achieve this joining together and working collaboratively to deliver quality care across a range of healthcare settings. An interprofessional setting may offer several benefits to patients, including improved access to healthcare, less conflict and tension amongst caregivers, improved use of clinical resources, better retention of staff, better results for patients in particular those with chronic diseases. Throughout Greek mythology male gods were seen as a more superior god then females. Our society has changed drastically since these stories were written. The female characters in Greek mythology tend to be docile and submissive. Their roles were to play as the house wives and to serve for their husband. Most of the heroic characters in Greek mythology were the males. Greek mythology believed that male gods were more dominant to female gods, so therefore they made most of the decisions. In Greek mythology some of the actions of the character are often based on gender role stereotypes, which we still see in our society today.
What constitutes the legacy of the welfare regimes? In contemporary debates two questions arise more highly than any others. Cardinally, does social citizenship decrease the convexity of class? – or otherwise presented – could the capitalist society be crucially revolutionised by the welfare state? And secondly, what are the columns that support the development of the welfare state? ( Esping-Andersen, 1990).
Do not end up in situations that can be avoided. Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a novel set on a tropical island, explores the idea of mind control. In this story there are a group of schoolboys that get into a plane crash and are left without adults. As adolescents they decide who gets the power to be leader and out of them. Ralph is picked because of his appearance. Throughout the book a character Jack abuses his power and then because his influence on the others it leads to the death of two schoolboys. In Lord of the Flies Golding’s point is to demonstrate that people react to bad stimulus without realizing it,which results in an emotional breakdown.
During the Great Depression, while the competitors were cutting costs and reusing outdated designs, Kress was expanding and building more elaborate stores than their previous ones. The architecture was referred to as an “emporium” evoking an elegant atmosphere more suited to a fine cloth or furniture store in New York rather than the five & dime stores dotting small town America. Many wonder what the driving force was behind these design decisions, especially during a national time of economic recession. Perhaps simply to outpace the competition, but perhaps more importantly Samuel Kress was an avid art collector and a proponent of public art enhancing a community. In this way the Kress legacy of the brand became more than a retail business, it became a symbol of small town civic pride.
As a starting point I have chosen to use the “Experimental Learning Model” (ELM) (Kolb & Fry, 1975) both because of its simplicity and to limit my own tendency to over complicate things as a way of avoiding bringing myself onto the page, which is something often commented upon in previous feedback.
The book “Women: Images and Realities a Multicultural Anthology,” by Suzanne Kelly, has many impactful essays, poems, and stories. The essay which I found to be the signal most impactful essay is entitled “ Fence Sitters, Switch Hitters, and Bi-Bi Girls: An Exploration of Hapa and Bisexual Identities,” by Beverly Yuen Thompson. Thompson, a biracial woman of Asian and Anglo heritage wrote this essay in 2000. In the essay Thompson addresses several aspects of her identity but the part of the essay that affected me the most was her explanation of what it was like growing up as a biracial child and how that affected her later on in life. The reason this essay resonates so deeply with me is because my children are biracial and it is heart wrenching to read this essay and think about some of the experiences that Thompson describes. I found myself thinking of experiences my children have experienced or may experience in their lives and I can’t help but to wonder if they have shared or will share Thompson’s thoughts and emotions.
It is wrong for the people conserving and reconstructing method on the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. In conserving method of letting tourist in, as they caused more issue including dipping rubbish and writing on Walls and vandalise and crime stealing gold and silver and historical treasure the entire only tourist problem. There is also a thread from nature as animal dropping and plants root such as ivory growing on the walls of the side and the roots seek into the walls and made it unstable. In the methods on reconstructing the sites there might be using the wrong method as sometimes the use of concrete to stabilize the walls also ripen at a much faster speed. Most frescoes survive today are some are regonlise.in It is uncertain that it the correct answer to excavating the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
In today’s world the vast majority of the population owns a cell phone. Cell phones are a huge part of people’s everyday lives. Since the 1940’s when mobile phones became available for automobiles, phone companies have made huge strides in making mobile phones more efficient, much smaller, and more available for anyone to use. There was a time where only people of wealth had these types of mobile phones. Now people from all social classes own a cell phone. They are extremely convenient and have the ability to do just about anything you can think of. There is an “app” for everything. You can make phone calls, text message, surf the web, pay your bills, read books, catch up on social media, and even listen to you music all from one small handheld device. Cell phones play a huge role in today’s economy. Businesses such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint have become huge public corporations with large stakes in the stock market. Between these companies among several other phone companies they have created millions of jobs and opportunities. Cell phone companies have now created what are known as “smart phones”. These phones are typically slim and sleek and have countless versatile abilities. However, cell phones have not always been so “smart” or small for that matter.
